Introduction to Story Museum The Story Museum is a registered charity and non- profit company founded in 2003 to: i) establish and maintain a museum dedicated to children's literature and the city of Oxford ii) conserve, interpret and develop collections and heritage assets relevant to these subjects iii) provide learning opportunities for and promote literacy and creativity among children, young people and families. Our vision is to enrich lives, especially young lives, through story. We are working to achieve this by developing a most unusual museum in Oxford that collects and shares great ways of engaging with great stories. In 2009, following several years of research and pilot projects, we acquired a 2,000 sqm dilapidated and atmospheric building in the centre of Oxford and began planning its transformation into a permanent home. From we experimented with pop- up exhibitions and events in the space whilst developing our masterplan and raising funds to progress the project. In April 2014 we opened the first phase of the Museum to the public for a 6- day- a - week operation. Since then we have welcomed over 60,000 visitors and delivered nearly 600 different events and activities across a wide- ranging learning and engagement programme. Now, with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England and several major private gifts, we are progressing the next phase of our redevelopment which will complete the Museum, bringing it into full operation in 2019 with the capacity to welcome over 100,000 visitors per year. The development of our Collection, in consultation with our communities and particularly children and young people, is a central piece of the project. For further information see The Post A recently confirmed Stage 1 development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund now enables us to advance our collections and content development over We are appointing two new team members to join us at this exciting time and progress this important work in consultation with our communities and stakeholders. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Curator to assist us in developing our collection and heritage interpretation alongside the re- development of our building.
