13 Recruiting Board Members How do you identify board candidates? Start with your dedicated and active volunteers Consider your donors and partners Ask your current board and staff for nominations or recommendations Reach out to those beyond your nonprofit, like youth, or people in business or from other organizations Communicate the fact that you re recruiting board members through multiple channels, like your newsletter, word of mouth, board recruitment announcement, and media Contact local organizations, like some United Way chapters and volunteer centers, that teach people how to be effective board members, then match them with nonprofits who need them Use board or volunteer recruitment web sites (see handout) 13

31 BOARD RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT The Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status working to eliminate domestic violence, improve services for current survivors, and create a culture that says to survivors that they are not alone. GCADV is adding to its Board of Directors, through a deliberate recruitment process focused on specific skills, backgrounds and geographic locations, to support the continued growth and development of the organization. GCADV is recruiting board members with skills in the areas of nonprofit fundraising, operations and technology, and marketing and communications. MISSION: GCADV brings together member agencies, allied organizations and supportive individuals who are committed to ending domestic violence. Guided by the voices of survivors, we work to create social change by addressing the root causes of this violence. GCADV leads advocacy efforts for responsive public policy ad fosters quality, comprehensive prevention and intervention services throughout Georgia.
