2 Professional Development Plan Period of Plan: (two years) Date of Next Review: (we recommend that you review every 6 months) Name: From: To: The purpose of this Professional Development Plan is to assist you to reflect on your performance, consider your aspirations and to set personal learning and development goals to further your knowledge and career in planning. This is about planning for the skills and knowledge that you need to achieve your next goal. Continuing professional development is an important part of professional growth, which is why CPD is mandatory for Registered Planners. The PIA CPD Policy outlines the level of CPD necessary to maintain membership for each two-year period. PIA is proud to support you on your career journey through the provision of quality professional development. The PIA online CPD Tracker keeps a record of PIA events that you attend. You are encouraged to use your CPD Tracker to record any other forms of CPD you undertake through other organisations as well as other PIA activities that contribute towards CPD such as mentoring, committee involvement, presentations and articles. Future CPD Plans will ask you to reflect on the goals that you set in this plan, but for this initial CPD Plan please take the opportunity to reflect on any CPD you have undertaken in the last 12 months and any goals that you may have set for yourself. These frameworks are likely to include: Planning systems Planning law Courts and other disputes processes Other applicable legislation Developing and applying technical knowledge Applying technical knowledge to a range of planning processes and functions according to need and circumstance. In this area, you must be competent in at least 3 of the processes and functions. These processes and functions will include: Plan-making, including strategic planning, master planning and structure planning Planning policy development, review and/or policy interpretation and advice Plan implementation, including development assessment and statutory planning Place-making and urban design Assessment of impacts and effects of policy and development actions, including environmental, social, cultural, transport, built form and economic Land-use assessment and management, including planning for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and assessment of natural resources Research, evaluation and publishing of urban and regional-related planning matters Planning-related teaching Being a planning expert witness and/or advocate Communication, negotiation and/or mediation for planning outcomes with stakeholders Designing and/or delivering formal community engagement on planningrelated matters.

7 Administration and/or leadership of urban and regional governance in planning Instigation and/or development of advances in planning law Project management of planning-related matters Developing and applying technical knowledge Developing, maintaining and applying a professional knowledge of the far-reaching issues affecting and shaping our wider community. These specifically include, but are not limited to: Climate change and resilience Economic development Environmental sustainability Healthy lifestyles and liveability Heritage and culture Native Title Rights and Interests Placemaking and design Risk and emergency planning Social justice / inclusion Social and cultural diversity Transport and infrastructure Other technical knowledge topics indicate any topics not in the list above that you would like further Professional Development on.
