6 Fostering SMEs Participation in Regional and Global Economy Strengthening SMEWG SCSC Collaboration by developing synergy between SMEWG SCSC : Standards and conformance as key to enhancing competitiveness of SMEs Concerted efforts will maximize benefits and expertise within APEC Development of a workplan to address SME issues in standards and conformance in coordination with SMEWG Creation of the Friends of the Chair (FoTC) for SCSC- SMEWG Collaboration - Intersessional discussion on proposed workplan SCSC Proposed Workplan to Support SMEWG-SCSC Collaboration - for SMEWG further comments Proposed SCSC Workplan in Support of SMEWG-SCSC Collaboration 1. Exchanging information on packaging and labeling requirements Identify priority products from agriculture and food processing Initial survey will be conducted by the Philippines Prepare/develop a template containing relevant information on packaging and labeling requirements of Member Economies for posting in the APEC SCSC page 5

7 Proposed SCSC Workplan in Support of SMEWG-SCSC Collaboration 2. Sharing standards and conformance Learning Materials Available case studies demonstrating success in using standards as a tool to facilitate trade or market access. Exchange of educational materials such as guidebooks on identified products Products will be further identify with the assistance of the SMEWG Proposed SCSC Workplan in Support of SMEWG-SCSC Collaboration 3. Capacity building activities oriented to training businesses, especially SMEs, to improve their knowledge, expertise and skills on standards and conformance matters Identify areas where SCSC expertise can be utilized such as on understanding and implementing standards and sharing experiences in standards development activities Collaboration with SMEWG in the organization of training events Development of sectoral information on relevant and available standards Development of projects that directly impact the competitiveness of SMEs Enhancement Project on Material Flow Cost Accounting (ISO 14051:2011) by Japan (Session ) 6
