3 Inductin Plicy fr New Staff Intrductin Inductin is the effective intrductin f a clleague t his r her rle within the schl. This plicy is intended fr all teaching and nn-teaching staff and, where applicable, vlunteers. It is als fr the use f emplyees returning after a perid f absence, including maternity and paternity leave. All staff and new staff are invited t help shape the prgramme f supprt t ensure that it meets nt nly the gvernment s guidelines but als serves t meet cmmn and individual needs f the schl s emplyees. The cmments f new and existing staff are welcmed, t help shape future inductin prcedures. It is the schl s aim that staff enjy their time at the schl, find it stimulating and wrthwhile and feel that they are members f a successful and hardwrking team. The schl aims t enable staff t achieve a high standard f perfrmance within the shrtest pssible time and t be familiar with the targets and bjectives f the schld develpment plan. The schl s inductin prcedures are designed t help t make this happen. The schl recgnises that pupils achieve mst frm a wellinfrmed, highly mtivated staff. New staff will be supprted during their inductin perid, which will vary accrding t the rle and experience f each member f staff. The aim f this inductin plicy is t ensure that the inductin prgramme cvers all the required tpics and enables new staff t assimilate infrmatin abut the schl and its wrking practices as quickly and easily as pssible. The inductin prgramme shuld enable new staff t cntribute t the maintenance f high standards f perfrmance and supprt strngly the aims and eths f the schl. The duties f a member f staff can be divided int three key areas: Academic, Pastral and Extra- Curricular. Inductin n the academic/extra-curricular side will be under the directin f the Principal r Directr f Studies, althugh the Head f Department will be invlved if yu are nt a head f department. The Vice-Principal (Pastral) will be respnsible fr safeguarding, health and safety and frm teacher respnsibilities. Inductin is the beginning f a prcess f nging prfessinal develpment, t which the schl is thrughly cmmitted. This includes t prvisin f supprt, training, appraisal and pprtunities fr career develpment. The specific aims f the schl s inductin f new staff are: T ensure and understanding f the schl s aims and eths and hw they impact n the implementatin f schl plicy T prvide the individual with relevant schl infrmatin. T ensure effective implementatin f schl plicies and prcedures T ensure an understanding f safeguarding, bth in terms f natinal requirements and als their implementatin in the schl T ensure implementatin f the schl s health and safety rutines and requirements T identify the rle the individual will play within the schl. T learn mre abut the individual and his r her immediate lng term prfessinal needs and aspiratins. T explain what the schl can and will d t help the individual make an effective cntributin t the schl. 3

4 Inductin Respnsibilities It is the Vice-Principal (Pastral) wh has verall respnsibility t ensure each new member f staff receives his r her inductin entitlement. The Vice-Principal is als DSL and senir husemistress. Each new member f staff is assigned an inductin mentr t help them accmplish the requirements f the jb. Mentrs will be chsen in relatin t the nature f the appintment. All staff share a crprate respnsibility twards new members f staff t make them aware f day-t-day rutines and prcedures. It is in everybdy s interest that each member f staff is able t cntribute twards the fulfilment f ur schl aims. Mentring is the supprt, advice and guidance prvided fr clleagues t enable the develpment their expertise in their new rle in rder t becme a cnfident team member. All new teaching and nn-teaching staff will participate in the schl s inductin prcess. The level f supprt prvided will be tailred t the new member f staff s rle within the schl and prir knwledge and experience and will be agreed during inductin. The milestnes f inductin include: Frm applicatin fr the pst until immediately prir t starting: Receipt f jb descriptin and persn specificatin Receipt f details f schl s aims and eths Gain an understanding f the pst thrugh interview activities Agreement f cntract and salary Familiarisatin time in schl, where pssible, fr teaching staff, spending time in schl Handver frm previus pst hlder Meeting with a senir member f staff t discuss rle and duties. Infrmal pprtunity t meet staff and pupils. Cmpletin f pre-appintment dcumentatin Undertaking and additinal training requirements, which may include safeguarding, first aid and fd handling Infrmatin n additinal expectatins, including attendance at parent cnsultatin meetings, evening and weekend events and functins, residential trips etc. Infrmatin n schl dress cde fr staff 4
