1 BASW Field Evaluations Senior Internship, AY Methods Field instructors conduct BASW evaluations at mid-semester and at the end of the senior year. These evaluations are based on competencies established by the School of Social Work for undergraduate student performance. Ratings can range from 1 (does not meet expectation) to 5 (mastered). Evaluations were available for 43 BASW students. Paired t-tests were used to compare midsemester and final ratings. Results As shown in the following table, all ratings for aggregated competencies showed significant improvement from mid-term to final evaluation. At the end of the semester, most students attained 3 or higher ratings for each specific competency (i.e., were viewed as at least competent by their field instructor). It was also evident that one or two students consistently achieved ratings of 1 or 2. There were only three specific competencies for which more than three students received a rating of 1 or 2. Two of these three were within the policy area and one was within the social justice area. Final means ranged from 3.62 for research to 4.28 for engagement skills. 1
