The centre is managed by a voluntary Committee of Management and employs over 50 staff and 50+ volunteers. Wingate s mission is to enable positive community wellbeing with a focus on learning and social activities, especially for people who are experiencing disadvantage. We believe such a commitment will lead to improvement in quality of life and empowerment for the local community. The centre is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Learn Local provider, Jobs Victoria Employment Network (JVEN) provider and is funded by the Department of Health & Human Services to deliver social and recreational programs as part of the Neighbourhood House Coordination Program. Wingate is well recognised in the delivery of programs that create pathways to education and employment and has received a number of awards and accolades in recent years. The centre is also a licensed Occasional Care provider with onsite facilities for up to 19 children and has recently constructed a Men s Shed. WACC has been successful in growing its services in the local community and is highly regarded by all stakeholders including Local, State and Federal government. In 2012

2 Wingate was successful in attaining DGR status (Deductible Gift Recipient status) under the Public Benevolent Institution classification to allow donations towards the centre from philanthropic trusts. This classification also allows a tax deduction. Position Description BARISTA TRAINER ACFE Pre-Accredited Dates, hours and days of work Hours of duty: Wednesdays: 9:30am 1:30pm Dates of work: Term 3, Wednesday 1 st August Wednesday 29 th August Term 4, Wednesday 10 th October- Wednesday 7 th November *No work during school holidays or on public holidays Conditions of employment Neighbourhood House Collective Agreement 2016, Underpinned by Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHCADS): Tutors & Teachers Classification Tutor 2 Salary Casual Teacher Hourly Rate: $40.00 per hour plus 9.5% employer contribution to superannuation. Program Administration Hourly Rate : $30.00 per hour plus 9.5% employer contribution to superannuation. Position Purpose The Barista Trainer will be responsible for the delivery of pre accredited training ensuring all aspects of course planning, delivery and evaluation are in line with the policies and procedures of WACC. Reporting Relationships and Accountability The Barista Trainer reports to the ACFE Coordinator and will liaise with the Centre Management on the day-to-day running of programs and services, particularly in relation to pre accredited barista training. Additional Information All administration work must be approved by the ACFE coordinator prior to undertaking duties. Administration includes course preparation and planning. Attendance at staff meetings will be paid at the administration rate.

3 A Casual employee means an employee who is engaged intermittently for work of an unexpected or casual nature and as such there is no expectation of any further employment at the expiration of the contract. While it is expected that employment will be available for the above period, it should be noted that casual employment may be terminated at any time when there is no work to be performed. Position duties Wingate Avenue Community Centre will deliver a Barista Basics pre-accredited course in Terms 3 and 4. The courses will introduce students to the world of coffee; the history of coffee, how to make espresso based drinks, how to prepare coffees with a commercial coffee machine and commercial grinder. It will introduce students to the coffee industry and provide experience of working in a café setting, taking orders as well as making and serving coffee. The course will run over 5 Wednesdays, each class running for 4 hours. These are hands-on, practical barista classes - not demonstration classes. Students will be from the local community and many may come from backgrounds where English is a second language. Responsibilities - General To plan and deliver the Barista Basics courses as described above. Prepare a course outline and course materials which reflect each class. Collection and maintenance of records for each student including; attendance and student enrolment forms; evidence of enrolment and course participation. Collection of A-frame documents for each student including Learner Plan and Learner review. Completion of A-frame documents for each course including: Course Plan Overview, Course Delivery, Session Planner and Course Evaluation (assisted by Program Coordinator). Supervise participants at all times and ensure their proper use of Centre property and equipment. Assist with the completion and collection of Pre Course Survey and Post course Survey forms when requested by the Program Coordinator/ Centre Coordinator. Be responsible for securing equipment and premises upon completion of the group s session. Ensure the coffee machine and kitchen is cleaned and maintained after all classes in accordance with Food Safety legislation Assist with the distribution of memos and other material to students when requested Upon request, write a short evaluation report for the Program Coordinator/ Centre Coordinator. Encourage students interest in the Centre s other classes. Raise any issues as they arise with the Program Coordinator/ Centre Coordinator.

4 Responsibilities Specific Requirements for Barista Basics classes Plan class delivery for each week and photocopy any handouts, organise any relevant videos. Determine detailed coffee supplies/quantities needed each week - adhering to budget. Liaise with ACFE Coordinator to determine which supplies can be obtained from suppliers. Purchase remaining supplies and maintain accurate record of expenses for reimbursement. Other duties Work collaboratively with the Community Programs Coordinator, tutors, teachers and other staff at Wingate Avenue Community Centre Raise any issues with Centre Management as they arise relating to students, resources or classroom facilities Notify the program coordinator of inability to conduct class Attend regular staff meetings as they arise Key Selection Criteria Required Certificate IV Training & Assessment (TAE40110) and/or Diploma of Education Experience delivering barista training Current Food Handling qualifications Excellent communication skills with the ability to build a strong rapport with learners from a diverse range of backgrounds Experience working with a diverse range of people including those from a CALD background Sound course planning and administration skills Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and team skills. A passion for coffee Current driver s licence Desirable but not essential Experience working in a similar role and/or understanding of the neighbourhood house sector An understanding of the philosophy underpinning community organisations How to apply Please send a cover letter, resume and statement describing how your qualifications, skills and knowledge meet each of the key selection criteria outlined in the position description.
