The National Manager Facilities is responsible for: POSITION SCOPE & PURPOSE Develop longer term strategies to maximise the utilisation of AgResearch s property assets and delivering longer term business needs. Leading the Campus Services Group to deliver operational plans to provide and manage fit for purpose facilities and services to enable AgResearch to achieve its science and commercial objectives.

2 STRATEGIC KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS To act in a manner that enhances the Group s long term strategy and annual business plan Ensure that the asset base is aligned to the short and long term needs of the AgResearch Group Develop an annual business plan and long term strategy (3-5 years) to optimise the utilisation and return on capital invested that is aligned to shareholder expectations Effectively manage the campus operations within the financial plan Develop and implement campus service strategies as expected and required. CAMPUS OPERATIONS To lead the Campus Services Group to provide and manage fit for purpose facilities and services costs effectively to enable AgResearch to achieve its science and commercial objectives: Ensure campuses in appropriate condition to enable science to be undertaken with maximum efficiency while preserving the value of AgResearch s assets Maximise the return achieved in un-utilised areas through commercial leasing or divestment Develop and deliver to annual operational plans and budget Develop and manage a medium to long-term maintenance plan taking into account present and potential science usage Work with the FFP Project team to support the development and implementation of a long term accommodation development strategy for each Campus Wherever practicable adopt and implement leading edge technical and management practices Ensure that all legislative requirements are met and that all consents under Resource management Act are up to date and in place Ensure best practice with respect to risk management is developed and implemented. Develop, implement and co-ordinate strategies to ensure compliance with relevant land and building related legislation Monitor District Plan Changes and their impact on AgResearch Farms and Sites Manage the acquisition, disposal, performance and utilisation of AgResearch vehicle fleet.

3 PROJECT MANAGEMENT Ensure all relevant projects are professionally managed with good systems and tools Leadership of key commercial property transactions Lead Campus Services relevant projects Lead the implementation of business improvement initiatives within Campus Services Implement and support organisational project management systems and tools LEADERSHIP Provide inspired leadership while role modelling our values and championing culture change As part of the Infrastructure Leadership Team, provide leadership that secures support, both internally and externally, for the company s strategy and performance Champion a culture shift that is focussed on service and quality, accountable, delivery and performance; and operates and delivers as One AgResearch Recruit, and support the professional development of staff, to achieve delivery of the required capabilities and performance objectives Ensure personal development plans are developed and implemented for all staff Set, monitor and discuss performance with all staff and implement regular (not less than six monthly) reviews, ensuring facilities collective delivery to relevant company strategy and KPIs Identify and nurture key competencies and working ethic in line with The Way We Work principles. Identify gaps and proactively and innovatively develop these. FINANCIAL & REPORTING MANAGEMENT To effectively manage the campus service activities within financial parameters Prepare an annual business plan and output plan, monitor results and report variances and trends Provide direct accountability for the pro-active management of campus performance against budget trends Signal trends that deviate from the agreed plans and advise on steps taken to correct adverse trends, and to ensure campus services are operationally efficient and effective Submit reports in accordance with requirements. ORGANISATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS To act in a manner that enhances the Group s organisational effectiveness Actively participate in organisational forums as required, supporting and representing resulting views to other AgResearch staff and others Establish and maintain free and open communication linkages with staff and external clients and key contacts Meet organisational deadlines and ensure all reporting responsibilities are completed on time and to specification Participate and encourage others to participate in organisational development initiatives as appropriate.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATIONS The person best suited to this position will possess the following: EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS Relevant tertiary qualification CAPABILITIES & EXPERIENCE Minimum of 10 years management experience, including proven leadership that has resulted in high performing teams Experience leading multi-disciplined teams Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with a variety of people of technical and scientific backgrounds both internally and externally Proven property management and facilities operations experience Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply both legislation and company policies throughout work practices and management Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques necessary for effective management of projects from initiation through to implementation Sound commercial acumen and financial understanding with client focus High level of computer literacy (particularly around programmes used for property management would be advantageous) and a strong interest in using technology to better productivity Working knowledge of lease agreements and the associated legal requirements
