The Historic Houses Trust is one of the agencies that is located within the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), reporting to the Minister for Heritage. OEH regulates industry, protects and conserves the NSW environment, manages over 850 national parks and reserves and protects the natural, cultural and built heritage in NSW. SLM cares for significant historic places, buildings, collections and landscapes with integrity, and enables people to enjoy and learn about them. SLM was established under the Historic Houses Act 1980 to manage, conserve and interpret the properties vested in it for the education and enjoyment of the public. SLM s portfolio includes houses, museums, landscapes, a library and collections of paintings, furniture and objects. SLM is managed through four groups Heritage, Creative Services, Commercial Services & Marketing and Operations. There are four Portfolios within the agency each Portfolio comprises a group of properties either geographically or thematically linked. The Portfolios are City (Justice & Police Museum, Museum of Sydney and Susannah Place Museum), Eastern Sydney (Elizabeth Bay House, Government House, Rose Seidler House and Vaucluse House), Macquarie Street (Hyde Park Barracks Museum and The Mint) and Western Sydney (Elizabeth Farm, Meroogal and Rouse Hill House & Farm). The Portfolio Teams including the Head of Portfolio, Portfolio Curator, Visitor Services Coordinator, Building & Facilities Officer and supporting staff deliver heritage, visitor, education, programming, commercial and operational outcomes for SLM sites. Primary purpose of the role This role manages the planning and implementation of the maintenance and upkeep of Eastern Sydney Portfolio sites by coordinating the building assets and operations to ensure Portfolio sites meet appropriate standards in the care, conservation and management of historic sites. 1

2 Key accountabilities Collaborate with the Head of Portfolio to schedule and plan both programmed maintenance and reactive requirements, while ensuring heritage values are protected in accordance with the agency s policies and procedures. Effective management of the day to day maintenance of the facilities within the Portfolio including timely programming and costing of works across the Portfolio. Participate in the ongoing review and improvement of work processes; developing a detailed knowledge of site safety for individual Portfolio sites and ensuring public safety and WHS requirements are met through the coordination of contractors, providing site inductions, training others in safe work methods and taking responsibility for the safe and complaint storage of materials on site. In collaboration with the Head of Portfolio manage the annual action plan, TAMS planning, maintenance and work schedules for the assets. Working with the Head of Portfolio ensure a high standard of preparation and presentation of the Portfolio sites for activities including museum operations, venue hire, internal and external events, public programs, education and maintenance work. Take an active hands-on role in managing, repairing and maintaining the Portfolio sites including, responding to site security needs and serving as the security contact for out of hours response. Provide reports and data as required on planned and reactive maintenance and the operation of facilities and systems at the Portfolio sites. Ensures the safe, efficient and compliant operation of all Portfolio building assets and systems. Key challenges Ensure a consistent standard of building operations across the Portfolio sites taking into account that building systems, operational requirements and user expectations may vary. Develop an understanding of the technical issues associated with maintenance of historic buildings, their materials and construction and knowing when to seek specialist assistance from other key staff. Recognise and overcome the communications, resourcing and practical challenges that arise from an agency with limited resources dispersed over a number of sites. Budget/Expenditure Nil Essential requirements Tertiary qualifications in building trades/building maintenance or relevant experience. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services. Strong interpersonal skills, including proven written and verbal communication skills. Project management experience including asset and maintenance management. Knowledge and training in building codes, electrical, water, hydraulic and security systems. Experience working in heritage or museum organisations with an understanding of heritage buildings and museum environments. Experience working with a range of software applications used to maintain and update information, eg word processing, spreadsheets, web and building management. Current driver s licence.
