9 Thoughts for Leaders Leaders set the example and lead the process of identifying stakeholders and their needs and building positive relationships with stakeholders. 2. Leaders show respect for all stakeholders which helps build positive relationships with all stakeholder groups. 3. Leaders involve stakeholders (or their input) in setting the direction and evaluating progress. 4. Leaders communicate (two-way dialogue) with stakeholders to gather information and communicate the direction and progress of the organization. 5. Leaders are persistent when it comes to building relationships with and creating value for multiple stakeholders regardless of the many challenges. 6. Leaders turn forced (adversarial) accountability to stakeholders into a proactive and positive force for change. 7. Leaders understand the connections between the requirements of multiple stakeholders and create value for multiple stakeholders vs. zero sum game. 8. Leaders spend time with stakeholders building relationships and developing a deeper understanding of their needs. 9. Leaders are continuously learning and developing new positive perspectives and approaches to meet and exceed stakeholders needs, wants and desires. 9
