2 INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS Who is GfK? GfK is one of the largest and most successful Market Research agencies in the world. More than 13,000 market research experts combine their knowledge with GfK s 80 years of data science experience. This allows GfK to deliver vital global insights matched with local market intelligence from more than 100 countries. By using innovative technologies and data sciences, GfK enables its clients to improve their competitive edge and enrich consumers experiences and choices. What is market research? Market research is about discovering what opinions people hold on particular topics and why - what preferences they have, what influences their behaviour and purchasing decisions and what values are important to them. Manufacturers, retailers, service companies, political parties - even the Government - carry out market research to understand their customers - what they want, what they think and do, and why they want, think and do it.

3 How is market research conducted? Market research is carried out across many industries technology, media & entertainment, consumer & retail, automotive and financial. It is conducted by different methods face to face, online, by telephone and post. The role of a market research interviewer is varied and interesting. Why would people agree to be interviewed? Market research depends on the co-operation of the public; we rely on people giving their time to be interviewed. Market research is an opportunity for the public to give their views on things that may affect them and their families. Their answers can influence a wide range of products - from pension plans to washing powders - and they also have influence on decisions that affect people s quality of life. What is the role of a telephone interviewer? The role of a telephone interviewer is to undertake interviews on a wide variety of topics, both business and consumer. Sometimes interviewers are provided with names and telephone numbers of people to be contacted; sometimes guidance is given on the type of person the interviewer needs to select for interview e.g. the main shopper within the households.

4 INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS Why become an interviewer? The role offers: Flexibility Flexible hours that can fit in with your family commitments or lifestyle. Business work is conducted Mondays to Fridays and household work is conducted during afternoon/evening or weekends because members of the public are not always available for interview during usual office hours. Interest and variety Interviewing members of the public about their views and what is important to them makes for a stimulating and engaging occupation. Many people are keen to give their opinion and have their views taken into consideration. It is a particularly rewarding job to be part of the process of offering people the chance to have their opinion listened to and included. Opportunity Be part of one of the largest and most respected market research companies in the world.
