1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: International Officer Grade: This post has been evaluated at Grade 5 Responsible to: Head of the International Office Date: February 2013 Job Purpose To recruit suitably qualified international students from priority markets to annually agreed targets. The post will have regional responsibility for the recruitment of international students from Asia, although will also be expected to work in other markets. It was also cover recruitment of UK domiciled international students. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across Falmouth s academic and professional departments, to develop and implement marketing initiatives in support of the University s international recruitment targets. The post will involve significant overseas travel, typically at least weeks per year. The University takes Health and Safety matters very seriously. All staff have a responsibility to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their actions and omissions. They also have a duty to comply with the University s arrangements for Health and Safety. Staff with responsibility for others must ensure the proper enactment of University policy within their areas in line with levels of responsibility set out in the University s Health and Safety Policy. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. To recruit suitably qualified international students from priority markets to annually agreed targets. 2. To develop and implement specific campaigns in priority markets, and drive the promotion and recruitment activities in support of Falmouth s enrolment targets. 3. To manage and grow business relationships with agencies and other suppliers of students within the recruitment territory (including the selection, training and performance management of the University s overseas representatives). To undertake recruitment visits to priority markets, acting as a passionate advocate of Falmouth and ensuring that its distinctive strengths and benefits are successfully communicated across a range of media to existing and new agents, prospective students, partners and stakeholders. 5. To interview students in-country and make recruitment decisions in relation to criteria agreed with the appropriate academic staff. 6. To develop a good knowledge of the University s course portfolio and of entry requirements in priority markets. 7. To maximize sales development opportunities in new markets as well as enhancing the University s profile and reputation in existing markets. 8. To maintain good relations with strategic, external partners and organisations including the British Council and schools, colleges, universities and alumni in priority markets (including international schools, colleges and pathway providers in the UK). 9. With colleagues in Marketing & Communications, to develop and implement promotional and marketing materials and tools to support the achievement of the Falmouth s recruitment targets. 10. To contribute to the continuous improvement of Falmouth s enquiry and admissions processes for international students, in order to increase the uptake and conversion of offers. 11. To conduct appropriate market research (based on statistical and trend analysis, including competitor activity), with reference to the strategic development of the Falmouth s course portfolio of academic programmes. 12. To support the International Manager in ensuring that our international activities comply fully with UK Border Agency requirements. 13. To contribute, whilst in the UK, to the support for existing international students (e.g. orientation). General Duties and Responsibilities 1. To work within and actively support the equality and diversity policies and practices of Falmouth University. 2. To ensure communications systems and practices support effective management arrangements and promote good relations with staff and students. 6. To work within a framework of effective governance, ensuring compliance with relevant Regulations, Legislation/Policies and Procedures. 7. To be responsible for your own continuing self-development. 8. Working within the Health and Safety at Work Act, the post holder has a legal duty to take reasonable care for Health and Safety both for themselves and others who may be affected by their actions. They are also required to undertake Health and Safety training commensurate with the level required by the post and to take part in risk assessment procedures and the implementation of agreed recommended work practices within the area. 9. To undertake other duties not specifically stated above, which from time to time are necessary for the effective performance of the Universities business without altering the nature or level of responsibility involved. Health & Safety Requirements In relation to Health and Safety, you are responsible for ensuring that: You comply with safe systems of work in operation within your work area. You work co-operatively with other staff who have responsibility for Health and Safety Requirements. You report any health and safety concerns to your manager or other responsible member of staff as soon as these are identified. You attend training as appropriate to your role (see the relevant Health and Safety Training Grid for requirements). 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: International Officer Attributes Essential Requirements Desirable Requirements Education and Qualifications Honours degree or equivalent. Experience and Knowledge Successful experience of international student recruitment. Knowledge of the needs and expectations of international students in our priority markets. A track record in growing international enrolments. Marketing and e-marketing communications experience. An ability to identify valuable business opportunities and engineer productive relationships. Particular expertise in outcomesfocused business planning, forecasting and project management. A comprehensive knowledge of the competitive international HE market. Knowledge of the Tier 4 Student Visa rules, Home Office procedures and SMS system. Page 4 of 5

5 Skills and Personal Requirements Demonstrable ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and achieve targets. Driven, target focussed and results oriented. Exceptional time management skills. Customer-service oriented approach. Excellent communication and IT skills. Eligibility to work in the UK and travel freely to and from the UK to meet the requirements of the role. Including staying away from home overnight or for several nights at a time. Working outside of normal working hours, as required. Page 5 of 5
