10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR RELIEF WORKER POST The nature and major focus of the Association's work is a range of Supported Accommodation and Residential Care Services to vulnerable homeless people. The essential remit of a Relief Worker is to provide staffing cover in the event of a permanent employee being absent from duties for such reasons as annual leave, public holidays and sickness etc. In essence the work is non-contractual and ad-hoc, currently paid at a flat hourly rate of 7.65(Project worker), Sleepover rate is with disturbed hours at 3.46 Please note there is no obligation to accept shifts, likewise the Association cannot guarantee shifts. Relief workers are frequently called on at a short notice to undertake anti-social hours and it is vital that those who apply have the flexibility and the commitment to respond when asked. Similarly, in a number of situations the shift is lone working and your application should take account of this fact. Whilst on shift in one of the Association's premises, the Relief Worker will be expected to take responsibility for the safety and security of the building and its occupants and would also be expected to fulfill most of the duties completed by a permanent staff member. These would include the following tasks, although this is not an exhaustive list: Interaction with residents and visitors Relevant paperwork Liaison with other agencies (both in person and by telephone) Security checks of building To summarise, the Association seeks to employ persons with the following: With relevant qualifications such as the HNC in Social Care or equivalent: and/or With direct relevant experience with vulnerable people in a residential setting: and/or Individuals who can demonstrate the compassion, commitment and common sense, essential for this kind of work. 10
