3 Introduction This manual describes the procedure used to setup and operate the DataLogger. The DataLogger software has been programmed to record various thresholds during the operation of a crane. The Greer Data Cable, (Part Number X999400) A cable which allows the user to connect a PC desktop or laptop to the Greer Computer via a PC USB port. Requirements Laptop or Desktop PC with: Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. USB 1.1 (or higher) port. 4 Setup 1. Verify that the power to the Greer computer is off. 2. Connect the Greer Programming Cable to an available USB port on the PC. Figure 2 USB Connection 3. Locate the J7 header on the Greer PCBA, and secure the four-pin connector. Figure 2.1 Four-Pin Connector Note: The Greer Programming Cable must be connected to the J7 header on the PCBA. The small two-pin jumper is not used with the DataLoggger, and should be left unattached. It is important to also note that due to different Greer PCBA configurations, the location of the J7 header may vary, as shown below: Figure 2.2a J7 Header Connections Figure 2.2b J7 Header Connections 4

5 4. Insert the Greer Flash Programming CD, and go to the PC_DataLogger Ver. x.x Setup Folder. (Version numbers are subject to change in the future.) 5. Run the setup.exe program to install the PC_DataLogger software. 6. The window below will be displayed. Click Next to continue. 7. Select Next unless changing the default selections is desired. 5

6 8. Complete the installation by selecting Next. 9. The final screen is displayed when the installation is complete. The user will now have PC DataLogger shortcuts on both the desktop and the Start Menu. 10. Select Close to complete the installation process. 6

7 Initiating the DataLogger 1. Double click the PC DataLogger Terminal application on the PC. A Greer programming cable is successfully attached to this PC over virtual serial port COM3. Ensure programming cable is also connected to the Greer computer (J7 only). Now waiting on the Greer computer to respond. Turn off Greer computer (if already on), then turn on. 7

8 2. Next, power up the Greer computer. A Greer programming cable is successfully attached to this PC over virtual serial port COM3. Ensure programming cable is also connected to the Greer computer (J7 only). Now waiting on the Greer computer to respond. Turn off Greer computer (if already on), then turn on. 9 3. The DataLogger software will display the message : Initiate Greer DataLogger Ver x.x? 4. Now type y to continue. Note: DataLogger information may be stored for post processing by highlighting the information, copying the information (pressing CTRL C), and pasting the information (CTRL V) into a suitable application. 6. 14 Troubleshooting Note: If the normal installation of USB drivers fails for some reason, it should be possible to force the installation of the driver version on the CD by running the CDM20600.exe program. The program will be located in the folder titled, Programming Cable Drivers Version on the CD. (Version numbers are subject to change in the future.) 14

15 1. When the programming cable has not been connected properly, the user may see the response below: No Greer programming cables were found. Please close this application until the problem is corrected. 1. Ensure that all necessary connections have been made, and retry. 15
