1 Page 1 of 6 Title Print single colour work on a sheet-fed registering offset press Level 3 Credits 10 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of factors affecting printing standards; print single colour sheet-fed offset work in both black and coloured ink including halftones; maintain the operation of the feeder system; maintain operation of the printing unit ensuring the quality of the printed product meets the job requirements; monitor operation of the delivery section; check job is complete before wash up; and undertake post-press tasks. Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. 3 Jobs undertaken for this unit standard must include work for a minimum sheet size of A3 and must include halftones. 4 Candidates undertaking this unit standard must provide evidence of normal colour vision. Outcome 2 Print single colour sheet-fed offset work in both black and coloured ink including halftones. minimum sheet size A Press start up and shut down procedures are followed during the print run in accordance with machine operating manual, workplace practices and Occupational Health and Safety requirements. 2.2 Potential hazards for the equipment being used are identified and reported in accordance with workplace practices. 2.3 Single colour work is printed to meet the specifications of the job documentation and ensuring that production standards and quality are maintained throughout the run. Outcome 3 Maintain the operation of the feeder system. 3.1 The feeder stack is monitored ensuring that continuous feeding to the head and side lays is achieved. 3.2 Substrate is added to the feeder to provide a continuous supply. 3.3 The sheet pick-up and transport system is monitored and adjusted as required ensuring continuous operation.

Outcome 6 Check job is complete before wash up. 6.1 Quantity printed is checked against job documentation before wash up is commenced or plate removed from cylinder. 6.2 Discrepancies in quantity are rectified or reported in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 7 Undertake post-press tasks. 7.1 Correct shut down sequence is followed in accordance with machine operating manual, workplace practices and Occupational Health and Safety requirements. 7.2 Job documentation is completed in accordance with workplace practices. may include, but is not limited to job sheets, time sheets, electronic data storage.
