1 Page Appendix 2 Spectrum Spotlight System Pre-Installation Details The following information will help you prepare for the installation of your instrument and ensure that you are ready for the installation visit. Related Documents The Spectrum Spotlight Users Guide gives you information about installation of the Spectrum Spotlight software along with an overview of the software. The Spectrum One User s Guide informs you how to use the Spectrum One. On-screen HTML Help Systems are supplied with all software applications.. Manuals for the PC and for the operating system of the PC are supplied with the PC. Documents are supplied to describe the use of any accessories you choose to buy, for example, the Horizontal Attenuated Total Reflectance (HATR) accessory, and there are Multimedia Tutorials for each of the main sampling accessories as well as the main instruments.

Additional outlets may be required for any additional accessories. 100 to 240 volts. 50 or 60 Hz. Any fluctuation in the line supply must not exceed ±10% of the nominal voltage. 750VA Total system [75 VA Spotlight +120 VA Spectrum +550 VA PC (nominal)] Other environmental requirements If possible, do not use photocopiers, discharge lamps, radio transmitters, and other equipment with large or frequent transient loads on the same supply circuit. Make sure that the switches at the electrical supply inlet on the rear of the Spectrum Spotlight and Spectrum One are not obstructed. The laboratory should be relatively free of dust, corrosive fumes and vibrations. The laboratory bench should be free from vibration and if possible isolated from other equipment that may induce vibration. Do not leave the instruments in direct sunlight. Make sure that there are no overhanging shelves, and no water pipes or faucets that could leak onto the instrument.

3 Page Always leave at least 15 cm (6 inches) between any surface and the cooling louvers at the rear of the instrument and 7 cm (3 inches) between the Spectrum Spotlight system and adjacent equipment. 1 PC Requirements A pre-configured system controller (PC) will be provided as part of the Spectrum Spotlight system. PerkinElmer Instruments installation of a customer-supplied computer is not available. PerkinElmer Instruments is not responsible for problems caused by unspecified system components, software, and/or accessories. The additional time it takes to verify this type of problem is billable at the current Service rate. PerkinElmer Instruments may not provide maintenance service on the customer-supplied items. Connection to a LAN is not common practice for the Spectrum Spotlight System. Please consult your local service representative for further information. What to do when the product is delivered The Spectrum One weighs 30 kg (66 lb) and the Spotlight Imager weighs 32kg (71 lb) Both units must be handled by 2 people. They can be lifted from underneath, at the ends. The Spectrum One instrument must be allowed to reach room temperature before it is removed from its bag. This will mean leaving it overnight if it was moved from a cold area, and at least 4 hours after removal from the shipping container. Note: Removal of the Spectrum One from its silver bag and the Spotlight Imager from its inner box should be carried out by the service engineer Keep the packing materials for future use. Contact PerkinElmer Instruments Service Department to arrange installation. What to expect at installation It will take approximately 4 hours to physically install and test the instrument. After the installation, our service engineer will familiarize you with the basic instrument and software operation. This will take approximately 60 minutes.

4 Page What other preparations should I make prior to the installation? Ensure that a staff member who will have ultimate responsibility for the Spotlight System is available during the installation. Ensure that a dewar of liquid nitrogen is available during the installation (at least one litre
