2 Goals of European transport policy.paramount goal: A transport system that underpins EU economic progress, enhances competitiveness and offers high quality mobility services while using resources more efficiently.in practice, transport has to: use less energy use cleaner energy better exploit a modern network.importance of ITS! 2

11 Conclusions and expectations.the ITS Directive provides for» a framework for effective cooperation» the elaboration of Standards and Specifications to have bottlenecks tackled & to ensure interoperable solutions We need to know and understand perceived barriers hampering deployment We need Concertation and coordination of all stakeholders Consensus building at international level We welcome UNECE initiatives to enhance awareness and to promote concrete cooperation! 12
