For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative or the Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL Reference: YE001 Overview IBM WebSphere RFID Information Center V1.0 provides a scalable, secure, deployable, and standards-based repository for sensor information for each node in the supply chain. With WebSphere RFID Information Center, you can readily layer high volume, granular sensor information into your existing enterprise system architecture. Conducting pilots in the pharmaceutical, consumer product, transport and logistics, and retail industries helped support use cases including shipment verification, product authentication, inventory reduction, and epedigree. These use cases leverage the power of the EPC Network for data sharing among trading partners. Based on the pilots, along with IBM's leadership and involvement in the EPCglobal standards organization, WebSphere RFID Information Center is uniquely positioned to support you in leveraging RFID to transform your business, from business strategy through pilot execution and solution, to process integration. Key features include: IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1

2 Security You control your trading partner's access to your repository via the EPCglobal SimpleEventQuery at the most granular level possible (attribute, attribute-value, and role level). Scalability You can capture dozens of events per second and support dozens of queries per second, enabling a production rollout to multiple packaging lines, DCs, and points of sale. Deployability To minimize deployment cost, you get an integrated installer that enables fast installation and flexible configuration. Standards-compliance Based on interoperability tests, WebSphere RFID Information Center fully implements the EPCglobal Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) 1.0 Specification interfaces for event capture and query. Integration with Master Data To support robust and secure queries to external and internal parties, WebSphere RFID Information Center tightly couples product, vocabulary master, and location master data from external sources such as WebSphere Product Center. Avoidance of data and system duplication You can feed the high volume, granular sensor data into one data store, then enable multiple internal and external systems to access the repository, avoiding storing the data in each system. Data accessibility You have flexible access to the repository by reporting views, configurable Web services, XML exports, and the EPCglobal EPCIS standard parameterized SimpleEventQuery. Out-of-the-box solution To maximize your business benefits, you can leverage a prepackaged feature for shipment verification. This standards-based module enables shippers to confirm receipts, while providing visibility of shipments to receivers. This feature is a component of IBM RFID Solution for Pharmaceutical Track and Trace, a joint offering with IBM RFID Premises Server. You also get access to a range of other solutions including product authentication, inventory reduction, and epedigree via services engagements. Key prerequisites Refer to the Hardware requirements and Software requirements sections. Planned availability dates December 15, 2006: Electronic software delivery January 5, 2007: Media and documentation Description Benefits from WebSphere RFID Information Center get to the core of your business objectives, maximizing the effectiveness of your partner relationships and improving your overall supply chain efficiency to increase revenues. Key use cases: Product authentication/anti-counterfeiting detect counterfeit product before it reaches the consumer especially on high-margin items with high brand equity including pharmaceuticals. Shipment verification allow shippers to verify receipts and receivers to plan for receipts mitigating the opportunities for theft or diversion of high-margin items in the supply chain and reducing chargebacks. Serialized epedigree/regulatory requirements for traceability comply with emerging government mandates including pharmaceuticals (serialized epedigree) and produce/animal tracking (regulations for tracking E. coli and mad cow disease). Out-of-stock reduction detect and prevent inventory shortages especially on time-sensitive, high-value inventory including consumer products promotions in retail stores and medical devices in hospitals. Excess inventory detection detect and prevent excess inventory in the channel especially on high-value products manufactured in batches including pharmaceuticals and IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

3 semiconductors. Expiration management detect and sell product before it expires especially on high-margin rapidly decaying inventory including fruits, vegetables, and consumer electronics. Overall benefits: Lowers your overall total cost of ownership because the solution helps you stay compliant with the evolving EPCglobal EPCIS and Data Exchange standards. Offers enterprise-class robustness, scalability, and performance capabilities that address immediate RFID needs and can grow with you over time. Facilitates sophisticated integration capabilities that let you leverage granular, high-volume sensor data with your existing technology infrastructure, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Product Information Management (PIM), and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Provides detailed insight into your supply chain activities that can drive process improvements both internally and with trading partners. 6 IBM WebSphere RFID Information 5724-O98 Value Unit Center Charge metrics definitions: Value Unit A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program. Sites (Value Unit) Value Units for the Program Production License are calculated based on the number of sites. A site is defined as any physical location where data is read from or written to any sensor, RFID reader/writer or barcode reader/writer. At a site, data can be read/written to or from the program. Any location conforming to this definition is counted as a site, regardless of whether a physical server is present at the location. Your quote documentation from IBM will specify the number of sites. You may install and utilize the program to manage the number of sites that You have authorization for.
