2 PFC: F4E commitments under PA Manufacture and supply of the 5 PF Coils for ITER (from PF2 to PF6) PA 1.1.P3A-B.EU.01 signed on 19/06/09 Construction to take place in the PF Fabrication Building (PA 6.2.P2.EU.01) Free-issued items delivered under separate ITER PAs: - PF Conductors provided by CN (PF2 to PF5), EU (part of PF6) and RF (remaining PF6 ) - Support Clamps provided by CN and assembled by PF coil manufacturer - Instrumentation provided by IO Slide 2

3 PF current procurement status A first CfT for PFC was launched already in Non-award and cancellation decision has been taken by F4E Director on July Alternative ways of action have been investigated. A so called Plan B has been analysed, presented and discussed to ExCo on Dec 5 th 2011 and lately, also on Sept 25 th The key elements of the current procurement strategy are: Splitting the large extent of the single original supply into more smaller contracts. Therefore, improvement of the competition. A staged approach to the procurement. The most critical contracts will be awarded already in spring Optimizing the number of tooling and type in order to accelerate the whole supply chain. Slide 3

4 Procurement strategy: status of implementation The Overall Procurement Strategy for the PF Coils has been presented to ExCo on September 25 th 2012, and positively received. The Individual Procurement Strategy for the Engineering Integrator has been approved by the Committee, in that same meeting. This means we can start the procurement of all the packages of PF scope Slide 4

6 Plan B Engineering Integrator tasks The Engineering Integrator is required, under F4E supervision, to: provide technical expertise, supervise and monitor fabrication prepare manufacturing drawings for PF coils components, on the basis of 3D CATIA models of coils and of a set of limited 2D PDF drawings specifying tolerances and assembly requirements. provide specifications to other contracts (winding tools for PF3-4, VPI,..) define the PF Coil Manufacturing Plan and the Cold Test Plan supervise the Manufacturing operation during Coil Manufacture and tests. provide a final report for each work item provide an activity of Project Management including supervising the manufacturing and cold test progress, commissioning, and on-site installation of the equipment with the Tooling Suppliers, the project time schedule, and a risk plan. The Engineering Integrator will act as a «Maitre d Œuvre» and F4E as «Maitre d ouvrage» Slide 6

10 Plan B Delivery schedule The first coils to be installed in the ITER machine are PF6 & PF5. These are especially critical for the schedule of the project. EI shall have to investigate the possibilities of recovery plans The schedule of possible scenarios have been discussed at the MAC. The delivery dates of the other EUDA coils (PF2,PF3,PF4) are not on the critical path: there is some flexibility to adapt their deliveries according to the assembly needs.
