6. Description of the item and of its components The temporary post for a rail is composed by a bracket (1), that has to be anchored to the wall with a threaded bar (4) and a counter flange (5). On the bracket must be inserted a vertical post (2) on which are welded the L elements, supporting the handrail, middle rail and toeboard; the lower L elelement (3) can slide vertically in order to be positioned as close as possibleto the walking floor. 7. Expecter use and restrictions The guard rail post is made and certified to be used as a temporary, fall protection support during constructions, maintenances or renovations. It allows to work on balconies, terraces, stairs and roofs (maximum gradient of 10 ) made of concrete, on private or industrial buildings. It is capable of supporting a person who leans on it and to arrest a falling person. The user must check the effectiveness of the anchorage according to the actual condition of the building on which it is installed, considering the loads and weights transferred to post as shown in this manual. The improper use of the post of the temporary guard rail post could cause falling with the results of injure or death! - 5 -

8. General terms of use ( fig. 3-4 ) The use of the fall protection system Class A requires certain conditions of employment: Maximum Operating Altitude: 20 m; Wind speed non exceeding 30 m/s; Working surface (walking floor) inclination mustn t be higher than 10 (equal to a 18% gradient); The inclination of the guard rail must not tilt from the vertical more than 15 ; The distance between the higher part of the fall protection and the working surface (measured perpendicularly from the working floor used) must be at least of 1 mt; The space between the guardrails must be closed with handrail boards, halfway boards and toeboards made by fir or other wood (resistance class C16 UNI EN 338), or with steel profiles that can support the amount of load described in the norm UNI EN : 2013; The boards or profiles used must be intact, and their minimum length Their minimum length must exceed by at least 400mm the length of two spans (200+A+B+200 mm) as shown in figure3; The vertical space between each of the boards (handrail, halfway and toeboard) mustn t exceed 470 mm; The upper edge of the toeboard must be at least 170 mm upper the working tramp; The space between the tramp and the lower edge of the toeboard mustn t be higher than 20 mm; When the wind speed exceeds 30 m/s &/or the working surface is higher than 20m from the ground, parapet load conditions and the distance between the parapets (recommended at point 5 Loads moved from the post to the anchorage point at the highest limit ) must be opportunely revised according to the norm UNI EN : 2013 point Wind speed evaluation ; This manual is done for a temporary protection system (not a permanent one!); before, during and after the usage, the fall protection system must be checked and serviced (as stated by the norm EN : 2013). 9. Usage Examples According to the norm EN : 2013 Setting on floors with a less than 10 inclination 1300 mm 1300 mm handrail middle rail post toeboard fig

10. Handling and storage Whoever interacts with the equipment in any way must strictly comply with the recommendations described below: The operations of packaging, handling, transport and unpacking must be performed only by qualified personnel with perfect knowledge of the equipment, referring to the accident prevention regulations in force; Handling equipment for lifting and carrying must be intact and able to execute safely the operations required, taking into account the size, weight, protruding/delicate parts and the center of gravity of the equipment; Avoid inappropriate handling and use; especially avoid performing maneuvers if outside of your own field of expertise and responsibilities; Always wear work gloves and safety shoes; Never put your hands or any part of the body under raised components/suspended loads; Do not wear rings, watches, bracelets or loose and dangling clothing during the assembly and disassembly of the equipment. Handling The post is normally shipped in multi-packs and secured on pallets. The package handling must be done with a lift with forks that can move at least a weight as heavy as the one of the packaging, as indicated in the delivery receipt. The unpacking operations are limited to the elimination of plastic protection and fastenings used to secure the items on pallets. The plastic material used for packaging is a pollutant and it should not be burned (causes toxic fumes), neither dispersed in the environment but disposed of according to law. Collect every item of waste in special containers, according to the directions for the collection of waste. Storage The item must possibly be stored in such a position as not to be subjected to forces that may damage its components avoiding con-tact with sharp edges. Must be stored in a dry and well ventilated space and in any case not in presence of water or other contaminants or corrosive agents

11. Assembly and dismantling of the components It is up to the user to verify that the structure to which the item will be fixed is actually capable of supporting the loads transferred (see point 5, page 4); The tables to be used for the handrail, the middle rail and the toeboard must be suitable for the solicitations treated by the norm UNI EN 13374: In the development of design calculations the guard rails are expected to be used with wooden panels of fir (minimum class C16 - UNI EN 338) with section 150 x 30 mm handrails, middle rails and toeboards; To lock firmly the horizontal boards (handrail, middle rail and toeboard) to the posts, insert nails or screws into the holes of the brackets; During the assembly and disassembly phase, in addition to the risks associated with manual handling of loads or the use of equipment (drill or manual fastening tools), there is a danger of falling into the void. Therefore it is necessary the use of other systems of prevention and protection, such as ropes fall, working platforms or other suitable and certified system; For the assembly and disassembly of the system use certified working platforms or equivalent structures; Before every use, the user must verify the absence of corrosion, damages to the materials and welds, as well as the absence of deformations or dents of each component; Before every installation, check the mobility of moving parts and the effectiveness of the locking and unlocking devices; After use, verify the absence of corrosion, damages to the materials and weld, as well as the absence of deformations or dents of each component; Eliminate any water and thoroughly clean all parts. If there is the presence of corrosion or deformation, the part must be replaced and tested by a competent person, whose written opinion -combined with traceability- will be binding for the purpose of reuse; In any case, the post must be inspected every year by competent personnel; If fall arrest has happened to the post, it should be immediately removed from service and tested by a competent person. Assembly (fig ) Fix the supports of the parapet to the vertical upright through the threaded rod and the backplate (fig. 4, page 9); Insert the vertical post within its home (fig. 5, page 9); Lower the toebord support until it is adherent to the walking floor (fig. 6, page 9); Proceed as above fixing the other posts, all around the perimeter, at a maximum distance of 1300 mm; Complete the assembly of the protection system by inserting the boards (fir wood, minimum class C16 EN 338, section 150x30 mm, or any other metal profile capable of resisting to the loads required by the norm EN 13374) into the appropriate supports (fig. 7, page 9). The boards (fig. 8) or the metal profiles must be intact under the aspect of resistance; their length must be at least 400 mm in two spans (example: 1300 mm mm mm mm = 3000 mm); The upper edge of the toeboard must be at least 170mm above the working surface

Disassembly To disassemble the fall protection system use a certified working platform or any equivalent certified structure. First, remove the protection boards (handrail, halfway, toeboard); after that, remove in this order the vertical post that used to support the boards, the counter flange and the threaded bar. Eventually, remove the bracket. The sequence of operations to safely disassemble the system must be such as to keep it, as much as possible, at work: therefore, remove the horizontal elements first (eg boards). N.B.: While disassembling the protections it is necessary to hold the components tight, in order to prevent dangers arising from the fall. fig Maintenance The maintenance and testing must be performed by authorized personnel with considerable knowledge of the systems for temporary railing and safety practices. It is recommended to periodically check the state of conservation of the temporary guard rail posts, greasing the moving parts such as screws and pins. A good preservation of the surface of the post for temporary railing eliminates possible hazards from weakening (eg. due to corrosion). The post must be inspected every year by competent personnel. Extra-ordinary maintenance actions must be registered in reference to the kind and the outcome. If fall arrest has happened to the post, it should be immediately removed from service and tested by a competent person. Inspection activities must be registered on card, which must be available to the user
