5 SECTION 1 GENERAL 1 Introduction 1.1 Objective The objective of this class programme (CP) is to describe the type approval (TA) scheme for pourable compounds for foundation chocking. The general requirements for obtaining DNV GL type approval certificate is given in class programme DNVGL CP 0338 Type approval scheme. The procedures and requirements described in this CP are applicable for obtaining TA certificate based on requirements given in the Society's rules and standards, e.g.: DNV GL rules for classification Ships RU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.3 Sec.1 [6.1] and RU SHIP Pt.2 Ch.3. Section 1 Guidance note: This class programme is not applicable for obtaining EU Marine equipment directive (MED) certificates. Visit for information on MED certification. ---e-n-d---o-f---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e Scope This CP gives a description of the procedures and requirements related to documentation, design and type testing applicable for TA of pourable compounds for foundation chocking. This CP does not set the design requirements to the pourable compounds for foundation chocking. TA is based on compliance with design requirements given in the rules and/or other regulations and standards. The CP describes how to document compliance with the requirements in order to obtain a TA certificate for the equipment. This includes, where relevant, technical requirements for how the type tests shall be performed. The type approval certificate for a pourable compound for foundation chocking will be valid for one grade of the actual product with the possibility to include variants. For pourable compounds for foundation chocking this means: grade: one base resin variants: different additives such as accelerators and thixotropic agents to modify the resin properties. The type approval certificate is normally limited to one manufacturer at one production site, however, other arrangements may be agreed upon with the Society. Type tests as specified in Sec.2 [3], shall be carried out and verified in one of the following ways: at a DNV GL laboratory at an accredited and independent laboratory accepted by the Society at the manufacturer s premises in the presence of a surveyor. 1.3 Application RU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.3 Sec.1 [6.1] require that pourable compounds for foundation chocking shall be type approved in accordance with this CP for equipment to be installed on vessels classed with the Society. A TA certificate in accordance with this CP will confirm compliance with the requirements in RU SHIP Pt.2 Ch.3 and RU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.3 Sec.1 [6.1]. The TA certificate will not confirm compliance with requirements in other parts of the rules. In case additional requirements in other parts of the rules shall be covered by the TA certificate, this shall be specified in the application for TA and will be stated in the TA certificate. 6 2 References Standards referred to in this document: ISO 9001:2008 Quality management systems requirements. 3 Documentation For TA of pourable compounds for foundation chocking the following additional documentation shall be submitted by the manufacturer at initial type approval and updated, at renewal. The documentation shall, to the extent possible, be submitted as electronic files. The manufacturer shall keep one (1) copy of type approval documentation in their own file. The documentation that forms the basis for the TA must be easily available for surveyors at the TA applicant s premises. When documentation is submitted in paper format, normally two copies of the documentation shall be submitted to the Society. No documentation will be returned to the company applying for TA. Please number documentation according to below list to facilitate review: 1) type designation, i.e. product name (grade) with list of variants to be included in and stated on the type approval certificate 2) basis for approval. A reference to applicable rules and standards, see Sec.1 [1.1], which the product shall comply with 3) product description and technical data sheet for the compound: intended applications/systems for which type approval is wanted basic content (epoxy or other) general data/properties with regards to: mixing ratio and density cure times and gel time volume capacity tensile strength flexural strength and modulus fire resistance shear strength barcol hardness (min. and max values) creep resistance at specified maximum service temperature and load elastic modulus in compression approximate thermal expansion rate (mm/mm/ C) chemical resistance to oils, and fire resistance properties shrinkage (linear) at curing frictional properties izod impact strength (if available, not mandatory) compressive yield strength (if available, not mandatory). specified maximum nominal surface pressure on the chocks, and the maximum service temperature (applicable for critical alignment type installations, e.g. diesel engines, gears, steering gears, etc.) instructions for use. The instructions shall include criteria to: basic design requirements, including recommended min/max thickness of chocks preparatory works ambient conditions (including min/max temperatures) for mixing, casting and curing pouring/casting curing (including requirements as to minimum cure period and temperature measurements to be performed during curing) Section 1 Class programme DNVGL-CP Edition April 2016 Page 6

8 SECTION 2 REQUIREMENTS 1 Design requirements The pourable compounds for foundation chocking shall comply with the relevant requirements given in Sec.1 [1.1]. Section 2 2 Requirements for production and quality control arrangement The manufacturer should have a quality system that meets ISO 9001 standards, or equivalent. If this quality standard is not fulfilled, the extent of type testing and assessments will be specially considered. The quality control arrangement in production will particularly be checked with respect to: control of incoming materials scope of quality control, i.e. proof that test methods, test quantity and test equipment complies to the applicable standard EN or ISO traceability and marking system production records storage condition and procedure. 3 Description of type testing The main objective of the type testing is to verify properties which cannot be verified by analyses or calculations with reasonable reliability, and to ensure that assumptions and conditions forming the basis for design are complied with. This includes documenting satisfactory strength, functional capability and reliability. Extent of type testing will vary depending on previous, properly documented tests or experiences. As a minimum, type testing shall include the tests as outlined in Sec.1 [3] above. Extent of type testing may be reduced, or type testing may be waived, based on previous, properly documented tests or experiences. Experience data shall be documented and shall, if possible, include written statements from users. Tests which have previously been carried out at a recognised independent institution and which are properly documented will normally be considered and accepted as type testing. 4 Requirements for material Type approval is mandatory for chocking compounds intended for components which are dependent of an accurate alignment, such as diesel engines, gears, steering gears, etc. The composition of resin/hardener and the design of the epoxy chocks shall comply with the epoxy maker s recommendations including the general data/properties as indicated in Sec.1 [3], item 4. Preparatory works and pouring shall be carried out by trained specialists, authorised by the epoxy manufacturer. For class applications, detailed drawings of chocks and calculations of epoxy loading (related to component weight, bolt pre-tensioning and operational loads) shall be submitted for approval. 5 Requirements for marking of product The product or package shall be marked. The marking shall at least include the following information: manufacturer s name and address or trade mark production plant product name (grade) Class programme DNVGL-CP Edition April 2016 Page 8
