14 SCIENTIFIC CERTIFICATION SYSTEMS SCS-IAQ-2492 Environmental performance Designing for the environment requires innovative thinking and solutions Since 1912, Steelcase has been committed to continually reducing the environmental impact of its products and activities on a global scale, by constantly seeking more effective ways to conserve resources, prevent pollution and nurture environmental consciousness in its people every day. During our product development process we evaluated its environmental aspects at each stage of its life cycle: from materials extraction, production, transport, use and reuse, until the end of its life. Life cycle assessment Thanks to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, Steelcase quantified Share It s environmental impacts to set the stage for further improvements. This method, based on ISO 144 and 1444 and selected by The European Union for environmental evaluation, allows us to quantify the environmental impact of our products throughout their whole lifecycle. To show continuous improvements, we communicate our products environmental performance through voluntary environmental labels and declarations. Sustainability related actions and results are communicated in the annual Steelcase Corporate Responsibility report. End of life 97% recyclable by weight. 1% recyclable cardboard and plastics used for packaging. Modular and easy to disassemble using normal hand tools. Contains only few different materials making sorting for recycling easy. Plastic parts labelled for recycling. Materials 17% recycled materials, by weight (2% pre-consumer + 15% post-consumer).
