How to use this manual All general information and explanations are presented in the text. You will need this information to carry out the procedures described in this User Guide. If an action needs to be performed by the installer or operator, the relevant text is marked with a bullet, e.g.: Perform the action now. Now carry out the next action. Always be sure to read the action texts all the way through. You will then obtain all the information you need without second-guessing the manual. This will protect you from making any mistakes. Chronology and reference This manual is arranged in chronological order: i.e. it follows the sequence from the packaged delivery status to the ready-to-use equipment. Then, its operation and programming are described and finally the technical information is presented. If you are unfamiliar with the equipment, you are best advised to read the manual through in sequence. You will be guided step by step and will therefore be able to operate the equipment easily and quickly. If you are already familiar with the XPS-3000 BASE, however, you should find it equally easy to use this manual as a reference source. 2. Safety The XPS-3000 BASE has been constructed in line with state-of-the-art technology and is safe to operate. However, hazards cannot be excluded if it is operated by persons unfamiliar with its use. The same applies if it is used in an inappropriate way or in a manner not in accordance with its intended purpose. Installation and User Guide 5

2.1 General notes on safety The XPS-3000 BASE may be connected only to a voltage of V/60Hz. It is vital to check the information on the type-plate. The power plug may only be connected to a grounded socket! Make sure that the grounding has not been rendered ineffective by the use of an extension cable with no ground conductor. Any break in the ground conductor inside or outside the equipment is dangerous and is not permissible. Line voltage to the XPS-3000 BASE is fused via both terminals! Even if a fuse blows, electrical parts inside it may continue to be live. Run the power lines so that no-one can trip over them. Make sure that no objects are placed onto them. Unplug the XPS-3000 BASE from the power supply if it is not being used for a longer period of time. This avoids any damage in the event of voltage surges. Installation and User Guide 6

Never touch the transport band while it is running! Such action can lead to injury from being caught up in the band. Also be sure to keep long hair and clothing away from the equipment while it is running. Protect the equipment from moisture. Always unplug the equipment before cleaning it. Do not use any cleaning agents. Use a damp cloth. You must unplug the XPS-3000 BASE and have it checked by an authorized service technician in the following circumstances: If the power cable or power plug has worn or been damaged. If water or other liquid has penetrated the equipment. If the equipment does not operate properly even after the operating instructions have been followed. If one of the parts of the equipment or the housing are damaged. If the equipment shows marked discrepancies from normal operation. Do not dismantle the equipment. The housing must not be opened by unauthorized persons. Repairs may be carried out only by authorized service personnel. Prohibition of conversions: any conversions or modifications carried out by unauthorized persons are prohibited for reasons of safety. The surface on which the XPS-3000 BASE stands must be level and sufficiently stable. After the base is wheeled into position, the four disk supports must be lowered to stabilize and level the base. Select an installation location which protects all parts of the equipment from extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, direct sunlight and excessive heat. The XPS-3000 BASE must not be subject to strong vibrations or shocks. Place the XPS-3000 BASE so that you can pull the power plug from its socket easily at any time. Installation and User Guide 7

2.2 Disposal When the XPS-3000 BASE has come to the end of its useful life, it may not be disposed of as an item of domestic refuse. Its disposal, inclusive of all its components, must be carried out on the basis of the statutory requirements Installation and User Guide 8

3. Unpacking and final assembly 3.1 Dispatch The XPS-3000 BASE is dispatched in appropriate packaging so that it reaches its destination without damage via a regular mode of transport. The carrier is liable for any damage during transport. Transport and storage should take place under normal conditions, i.e. at temperatures between +5 C and +60 C and relative air humidity of up to 80%. Impermissible conditions may lead to damage which is not externally visible. First, unscrew the bolts that secure the base to the wooden pallet and remove the transport chucks. The height adjusters must be raised, as high as possible. This will allow the base to rest on its transport rollers and will provide proper clearance for the base to be rolled off the pallet. Attach the ramps, provided. The base can now be carefully rolled down off the wooden pallet, via the ramps. 3.2 Packaging In the event that the equipment has to be returned, use should be made of the original XPS-3000 BASE packaging. It is strongly recommended that you save the packaging. If the packaging is no longer required, be sure to dispose of it in an environmentally appropriate way. 3.3 Scope of delivery Check that the XPS-3000 BASE is complete and undamaged. For additions to the XPS-3000 BASE (SC2000), such as the PS2000 printing system, please see the options on the final pages of this User Guide. 3.4 Final assembly For reasons of transport security, the XPS-3000 base (SC2000 transport system) is dispatched in a completely assembled condition. NOTE: If your XPS-3000 was ordered with optional equipment, some of the options may already be attached and some must be attached by a qualified Rena service technician. Installation and User Guide 9

3.5 In-line operation, height adjustment To stabilize the base and to allow the XPS-3000 BASE to be used in-line, it is equipped with height adjusters. The height adjusters are located on the outer sides of the equipment. Adjust the threaded bolts using an appropriately sized wrench. Ensure that the transport band is horizontal (check with a level). The band must not be sloped. When their appropriate position has been reached, secure the height adjusters with a locknut on all four supports. The height adjusters can move between 750 and 900 mm. The minimum height with supplementary transport rollers is 780 mm. NOTE: On newer models, the height adjusters are located under the frame of the unit, as shown below. Installation and User Guide 10

4. Description of the XPS-3000 BASE 4.1 Description of the functions The XPS-3000 BASE is designed to transport media. The media is conveyed by the transport band at an appropriate speed. NOTE: The transport motor, within the XPS-3000 base, is driven by the PS2000 controller. Vacuum is generated within the base, using large fans instead of a traditional vacuum pump. This provides a high amount of vacuum and produces less noise than a traditional vacuum pump. The suction force pulls the media against the transport band and holds it securely. The suction force can be adjusted to concentrate the force on the central area of the band, for small-format media, or it can be widened to incorporate the full width of the band, for wide-format media. The XPS-3000 BASE is equipped with an aluminum attachment area on its upper side so that accessories may be attached to it. This gives the XPS-3000 BASE (SC2000 media transport system) considerable flexibility. The base can be configured to run as a left-to-right transport system or as a right-to-left transport system. This is done by rotating the base 180 degrees. It is important that all options are appropriately attached, so the base can be used in the preferred orientation. An emergency stop switch is present on each side of the machine, to accommodate this flexibility. Options for the XPS-3000 BASE, including the PS2000 print system, are presented on the final pages of this document. Installation and User Guide 11
