3 Nunavut Background Nunavut means Our Land in Inuktituk Nunavut was created on April 1,1999 to become Canada s largest and newest territory Established through Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and division of NWT

4 Nunavut Background (cont d) Nunavut: Has a population of approximately 27,000 scattered throughout 28 communities Covers approximately 1.9 million square kilometers

23 Bathurst Inlet Road & Port Project Feasibility / Environmental studies ($6M) have been completed; Environmental Assessment and Permitting procedures awaiting Minister of INAC approval; Part 5 or 6 Review ; Road & Port construction to start Summer of 2005 to be completed summer of 2007;

24 Kimmirut Port & Road This project would consist of the establishment of an ocean port at Kimmirut with a connecting 194 km all weather road to Iqaluit; Nishi-Khon /SNC Lavalin Ltd. is the consultant company doing the pre feasibility study. The study has just been completed; Pre - Feasibility Project
