2 Assessment Tool Assessor Resource TLIA2013A RECEIVE GOODS Unit Descriptor Pre-requisite Units Assessment Methods This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to receive goods in accordance with regulatory and workplace requirements, including identifying workplace procedures and documentation requirements for the receipt of goods; checking and inspecting goods on arrival and completing workplace documentation; and unloading, packing and storing stock. Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements are applicable to this unit. 3 Assessment Task 1 Project Student responses will vary depending on workplace. Some suggestions however are below. You are required to find your workplace procedures and other documentation relevant to receiving goods. Complete the following: 1. List your workplace procedures relevant to receiving goods. What do they tell you about how to do your job? Workplace procedures could cover: Receipt of goods process to unpack, what to do if discrepancy between order and goods received, what documentation to complete, etc OHS, safe work practices, manual handling, operating equipment Environmental considerations, hazardous chemicals etc Policies and procedures provide step by step information and guidelines as to how to complete a task 2. List any other documentation relevant to receiving goods. What information do these documents give you? How do they help you do your job? Documentation could include: goods identification numbers and codes manifests, picking slips, merchandise transfers, stock requisitions and bar codes operations manuals, job specifications and induction documentation manufacturers specifications for equipment supplier and/or client instructions dangerous goods declarations and material safety data sheets (where applicable) This documentation provides information on the specifics of the goods to be received 3. List any legislation, regulations or codes of practice relevant to receiving goods Could include, depending on workplace: relevant codes and regulations for the receiving of goods Australian and international regulations and codes of practice for the handling and transport of dangerous goods and hazardous substances, including: Australian and International Dangerous Goods Codes Australian Marine Orders and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code IATA Dangerous Goods by Air Regulations Australian and international explosives codes licence, patent or copyright arrangements water and road use and licence arrangements export/import/quarantine/bond requirements marine orders relevant state/territory OH&S and environmental protection legislation Due Date for Submission:... 4 Assessment Task 2 Observation Your students will demonstrate their ability to receive goods. The demonstration should provide the student the opportunity to complete the following tasks: 1. check and inspect goods on arrival 2. complete all necessary documentation 3. unload, unpack and store stock All relevant documentation should submitted for assessment. You should use the checklist on the following pages to assess the student s ability to complete the task. At the conclusion of the demonstration, you should ask the student some critical questions related to their performance. These should be specific to their performance to assist you to: Assess their ability to deal with contingencies E.g. What if... Clarify anything you are not sure they demonstrated properly E.g. Why did you... Gather any further information you may need to make your decision These questions, along with the student s answers should be recorded in the table provided. 5 Observation 1 TASK REQUIREMENTS Complete the process for receiving goods in your workplace. This should include the following steps: Obtain relevant documentation Check and inspect the goods Unload, unpack and store the stock Upon completion of the observation, all relevant documentation should be completed and copies submitted for assessment. 8 Assessment Task 3 Questions Instructions: The following questions have been designed to check your required knowledge for this unit. This is an open book assessment and you are to answer all of the following questions. Make sure you ask your assessor if you do not understand a question. Whist your assessor cannot tell you the answer, they may be able to re-word the question for you. Your assessor will give you a date by when your responses must be submitted. 1 What problems may occur when receiving goods? What should you do when the problem occurs? Responses will vary depending on workplace, however may include: damaged stock isolate damaged items and advise supplier and supervisor damaged pallets or packaging isolate damaged items and advise supplier and supervisor wrong stock advise supplier and supervisor error in paperwork advise supplier and supervisor poorly stacked stock restack where appropriate/advise supervisor incorrect quantity advise supplier and supervisor 2 What should you check when you receive goods? 9 Supervisor s Report At the conclusion of Assessment Tasks 1 3, have your supervisor complete the following checklist listing your ability to complete workplace orientation/induction procedures.
