1 National Vendors Changetron 2/4 Validator Installation Instructions Kit Overview This kit is designed to update National Vendors Changetron 2/4 dollar bill changers that use hopper drums to dispense coins. The harnessing on the Module connects to the following Mars validators: VN2511, AE2411, AE2451, AE2611. A different kit is available for the National Vendors Changetron 1, and the X Changer model. This kit will not work in Hamilton changers; different kits are available. After installing the kit, the changer will be able to make change for $1-$20. The machine was originally designed to make change for $1 and $5. A short changing possibility arises when accepting $10 and $20 bills, as the coin inventory tubes do not hold enough coins. The installation information is intended for experienced personnel familiar with the operation of these components. All of the installation procedures must be reviewed and understood prior to installing the kit. The machine must be in working order prior to the installation of the kit. The installation instructions are based upon a dollar bill changer that has not been modified from the original factory configuration. If the machine has been altered in any way, restore the machine to the original factory configuration prior to beginning the conversion. Kit Components for Changetron 2 The parts kit contains the following parts: Module Validator mounting bezel (part # KITVMB) Template label for cutting the validator mounting hole (part # PL013) Velcro strips to mount Module Three tie mounts Kit Components for Changetron 4 All of the above the harness that connects to original Buckpasser connector is over 72 long Additional Required Items Not Included With Kit Working Mars validator Model AE2411/AE2451, VN2511, or AE2611 The four hex nuts used to mount the Mars validator to the rear validator bracket are included in the Mars validator shipping box. 2 Initial Testing These instructions and the photo page reference the installation of the kit in a Changetron Prior to installing the kit, confirm the proper operation of the kit as follows: 2. Confirm the dollar bill changer is in working condition with coins in inventory. The white ready bulb on the door must be illuminating. 3. Unplug the changer from the wall outlet 4. Unplug the Buck Passer and remove it from the mounting rails; it may be necessary to remove a set screw on the right hand side. 5. Plug the large 9-position harness plug from the kit module into the now open connector. 6. Plug the remaining long black connector into the Mars validator. Set the dip switches on the validator per the label on the black kit Module. 7. Plug the changer s power cord back into the wall outlet and test. After a 10 second initiation period insert bills to confirm proper operation. After proper operation has been confirmed unplug the changer from the wall outlet. Remove the black connector from the Mars validator. Mounting the New Validator The new validator is mounted to the front door of the changer. It is important to be careful when selecting the area that will be cut out. Prior to cutting the mounting hole, be sure to confirm the location of the new validator will not interfere with any of the changers existing components. The stacker capacity is typically limited to a 500 note bill box due to the configuration of the various changer models. Due to the configuration of the changer, it is recommended that a downstacker validator offering 4-way acceptance be installed. This permits the original slot used with the Buck Passer to be enlarged. If an upstacker validator is installed the Buck Passer slot will need to be covered with a plate that is not included with the kit. 1. Place the cutting/drilling template label (part #PL013) on the door of the changer in the location you have selected. See figure3. 2. Drill the 4 stud holes and then cut out the center area using a jigsaw. Be sure to review the instructions provided with the power tools and to wear safety goggles. 3. The 2 rails that the Buck Passer was originally mounted upon need to be removed. Unplug the 6-position harness that connects to the stacker assembly. Remove the two 3/8 nuts securing the stacker assembly to the base of the changer and lift the stacker assembly up and out of the changer. 4. Unscrew the two rails. 5. Reinstall the stacker assembly and connect the harness. The stacker assembly must be reinstalled, as it will cycle once after each dollars worth of change is dispensed 6. Install the validator mounting bezel (part #KITVMB) and secure the validator to the door of the changer. 7. Connect the harness from the kit Module to the validator. 8. Secure the kit Module with Velcro. 9. Plug the changer s power cord into the wall outlet and test. 10. There is a delay of up to 10 seconds before the validator will accept additional bills after each vend. Changetron 4 Information The above instructions apply except for the location of the new bill acceptor. Due to possible variations in machine software it is important to confirm the kit is working properly in the machine.

3 The new validator can be mounted in the upper right hand corner of the changer. It is a tight fit so care should be taken when determining the locations. Some customers have chosen not to use the upper right hand drum hopper. In this case there is a much larger area to mount the validator. The validator can be installed on the upper right hand portion of the door. The bill box will recede into the area that the drum was originally positioned.
