Integration is a new priority for Europe Riga Summit March 6 th 2015 RPAS need to be treated as new types of aircraft with proportionate rules based on the risk of each operation EU rules for the safe provision of drone services need to be developed now Technologies and standards need to be developed for the full integration of RPAS in the EU airspace Public acceptance is key to the growth of RPAS services RPAS operators are responsible for their use EVERYWHERE IN EUROPE FROM 2016

Reflected in the SESAR vision for the future of aviation Automation of routine tasks Automation and use of data communication to ease controllers & support staff workload Integrated systems Lean and modular systems, easily upgradable and interoperable Integration of all vehicles All air vehicles fully integrated in ATM environment (incl. RPAS) Sharing of information Information shared digitally via common information platform Flight-centric operations Air users fly their preferred, more direct route in a flow and network context Virtualization Virtualization allowing dynamic capacity management

Where do we stand today? 2014/ First activities Update of the ATM Master Plan Launch of SESAR 2020 First Demonstration Activities across Europe RPAS Definition Phase Formally recognize as a priority for SESAR/SES moving forward Inject additional funding for R&D on prioritized areas THE BUILDING BLOCK ARE NOW IN PLACE IN SESAR/SES

First activities Air Operator Coordinator ANSP Demonstration activities 9 projects launched across Europe Activities to be completed this year Demonstrate how to integrate RPAS into nonsegregated airspace In real traffic conditions Covering various types and sizes of RPAS

First activities RPAS definition phase Identified the detailed R&D work relevant for all domains of ATM activities and per typology of RPAS operations e.g.: Detect and Avoid Air-Ground datalink Etc

Towards the launch of SESAR 2020 activities June 2014: SJU Extension Decision July 2014: Launch of Membership Call for Expression of Interest November 2014: selection of 19 Candidate Members out of 24 applications Dec 14 April 15: dialogue phase aiming at refining the action plan Q1 2015: launch call for Exploratory Research 2015: launch of the call for Proposals for the PPP 2016: signature of the renew partnership

Towards the launch of SESAR 2020 activities Airport operations Integrated RPAS surface operations Infrastructure Focus on D&A support systems Air-Ground datalink Security & Cyber - Resilience Air Traffic Services Concept of Operations Flight information management Awareness for ATC Safety nets Network operations Concept of Operations Flight information management FIRST WAVE OF ACTIVITIES SOON TO BE LAUNCHED

What are we still missing to go further? A long term outlook for Drones and its applications in society/industry A comprehensive sizing exercise or related R&D areas identifying any gaps in on-going R&D efforts across Europe Impact on EU economy and society OUTLOOK STUDY JUST LAUNCHED, RESULTS EXPECTED BY MID 2016

To summarize Integration is a priority for Europe Update of the European ATM Master Plan reflects this new priority for aviation As a consequence, additional SESAR funding will be injected from 2016 Outcome of Drones Outlook Study to further inform future EU decision making

Towards Drone Integration in the European Aviation System
