2 Agenda National Procurement The DHB National Catalogue Temporary Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) Sector-based Product Recall Notification Portal

3 National Procurement the back story The health sector is facing significant funding challenges By providing shared services nationally, the Government aims to reduce duplication and costs healthalliance was selected as a key service partner to provide shared services to all 20 New Zealand DHBs; with a view to enable reinvestment of savings into clinical services and patient care Our successful National Procurement practice will, in time, secure economies of scale and the ability to leverage a scaled position for more creative sourcing strategies On July 1, 2014 we launched the National Procurement Service to deliver to the collective needs of 20 DHBs within an off-system, interim operating model

4 National Procurement the EcoSystem ~ 4,700 contract records > 550 in-scope national suppliers > 120 in-scope subcategories ~ 400 current active procurement initiatives 581 new projects identified 421 projects closed in the first 12 months Average duration of a procurement process 16 weeks 69 staff (blend of employees and contractors)

5 DHB National Catalogue Vital foundational initiative for the sector as a whole:» GS1net primary source of standards-based product information constant data maintenance is the real key!» GS1net soon to named National Product Catalogue DHB NC now has > 110k products from ~ 150 suppliers (Pharmaceuticals, medical devices and consumables). The data is being used. Item data being distributed to DHBs every 2 weeks for use in purchasing/ procurement decisions. DHB NC data also used by other agencies (e.g. NZULM, PHARMAC). healthalliance National Procurement is actively using this information for:» Spend analytics» Contract implementation DHB NC will be a vital component in all new major DHB system implementation projects going forward.

6 Temporary GTINs GS1 Global Trade Item Numbers (i.e. GTINs) are critical for patient safety outcomes and care chain objectives. GTINs need to be globally unique for levels of product packaging to be effective. Today in the DHB NC >5000 Temporary GTINs sub optimal Temporary GTINs occur when local suppliers (i.e. not the brand owner), allocate GTINs themselves to products they distribute. The Impact is integrity of brand details, could impact on product recall options. ha will be working with supplier to migrate away from use of temporary GTINs. If you have Temporary GTINs in your DHB NC let s talk.

7 Sector-Based Product Recall Project ha as project sponsor undertaking investigation in an appropriate and approved Product Recall solution. Question: is there an opportunity for an automated approach as used in other countries e.g. GS1 Recallnet in Australia? Kick Off Meeting - 18 th August involved a cross-section of industry in a meeting to solicit thoughts/ ideas/ a plan. Meeting outcome - Yes, there s potential opportunities in overall process efficiency (esp: devices), so move to design a multi-stakeholder pilot using GS1 Product Recall solution as used in other sectors (i.e. food and grocery in NZ).
