2 1.0 INTRODUCTION The PLATINO 1530 high-speed laser cutting system combines the latest developments in machine, CNC, laser resonator and material handling automation technologies: Rugged, highly compact structure for high quality, thin-to-thick plate parts. Unique monoblock structure and high-speed cantilever design lends itself to the ultimate flexibility in laser processing. High speed piercing technology delivers turret-like throughput. Cutting table design minimizes part tip up for reliable, unattended operation. The high-speed 64-bit PRIMA PRIMACH 20L CNC control incorporates the latest technologies and advancements in laser processing and diagnostics. The Building Block concept of adding automation material handling systems to the standard PLATINO 1530 machine allows you to grow when increased machine utilization is required. The quick pierce system allows a dramatic reduction in piercing thick plate. The laser pierce monitor is the latest technology in automating pierce to cut dwell time. Compared with its axis strokes, the PLATINO 1530 footprint is extremely small. This is obtained with a highly compact structure where the machine frame, CNC controller, laser resonator, beam delivery system, axes of movement, and laser head are completely integrated. The PLATINO 1530 structure is open and the work volume fully accessible. The cantilever arm on which the laser head is installed leaves the working volume free and accessible from all three sides. The manual loading/unloading of the work pieces and scrap remnant is easy and comfortable from the front, side, or from the standard pallet changer table location. The beam delivery system is a Flying Optics design. This allows the sheet to remain stationary at all times during the cutting process. The special design of the cantilever arm travels in the X-axis and Y-axis across the stationary sheet to be processed. The Z-axis cutting head motion of 6 is CNC controlled. 2 of 10

3 The integration of the laser resonator placed on the monoblock structure design minimizes beam alignment and vibration problems dramatically. 4 1.1 CNC PRIMACH-20L Controller The CNC PRIMACH-20L controller features the following: PRIMACH-20L 64-bit CNC control (web-based interface running under Windows for easy use and remote control) 15-inch LCD flat, touch screen and integrated trackball ISO G-code programming language Trajectory sampling (every 1 ms) Servo loop position control (every 0.2 ms) Integrated PLC with remote I/O modules Full digital drives with optic fiber link Tuning of servo drives through an SW browser Oscilloscope-like function for servo dynamics Look-ahead functions Oscilloscope function for CNC variables 4 of 10

5 1.2 Safety Enclosure The PLATINO 1530 protection enclosure is designed to grant full accessibility for sheet loading and unloading, as well as total operator safety. The enclosure permits full visibility of the cutting process from all sides. It opens like a sliding door, exposing the entire cutting table for the easy removal of parts and scrap. 1.3 Cutting Head with Capacitive Sensing The PLATINO 1530 high-speed capacitive cutting head is suitable for a variety of cutting applications. The head incorporates a capacitive sensor that maintains a constant programmable standoff between the nozzle and the sheet metal surface. 1.4 Safe Impact Protection System (SIPS) In case of impact, the head disengages from the Z-axis slide to avoid damages to the drive structure. The SIPS system will work in all directions and automatically stops all drives and shuts off the laser beam when it disengages. To reposition the cutting head after a crash you simply place it back onto the slide system that utilizes high accuracy reference pins and a set of magnets for relocation. 5 of 10

6 1.5 Quick Change Lens Holder A highly convenient drawer-type system enables a very easy, quick change of the lens from 5.0 to 7.5 focal length (lenses included). No manual adjustment is necessary, since the lenses are pre-centered. 1.6 Automatic Focusing Control (F-Axis) The F-axis is motorized and drives the cutting lens up and down according to the parameters set in the program. This dramatically reduces set up time when piercing and cutting parameters require a different focal point position for a given material. This feature also provides automatic focal point compensation throughout the entire working envelope. 1.7 Programmable High Pressure Assist Gas with Two Ports (300psi) There are two assist gas ports provided with automatic switching via the laser parameters in the program callout. The assist gas system can handle up to 20 bar / 300psi. 1.8 Automatic Sheet Referencing System The machine measures 3 points (or 2 holes) on the sheet and transfers these highly accurate measurements into the programming software. The programming software automatically references and squares up the sheet according to the measurements taken. 6 of 10

7 1.9 Automatic Switch Off System The automatic switch off system allows the operator to set a timer within the CNC control to shut the machine off after the last sheet on the pallet table has been processed Ducted & Zoned Cutting Table The cutting table comes with mild steel grates on 2 centers to support the material. The table weight capacity is based on a full 5 x 10 sheet of.750" mild steel. The table comes with a 10 duct inlet for the connection of the customer-supplied vacuum removal system of choice. The table is ducted and zoned for the efficient removal of smoke and dust. There are scrap trays on wheels that are located under each duct zone area for the easy removal of scrap. A nozzle cleaning device is supplied with the table Dual Pallet Shuttle Table The dual pallet shuttle table provides maximum machine utilization by allowing material load, part and scrap unload, to take place while the machine is processing. Depending on the material being processed, the machine may run without operator intervention SI-CAM 2D Programming Software SI-CAM is the off-line programming specifically designed for PRIMA s 2D cutting machines. It is composed of several modules that cover each step of the off-line programming from the drawing or importing of figures to be cut, to the generation of a part program ready to be executed by the machine. 7 of 10

8 1.13 SI-NEST Automatic Nesting Software SI-NEST is the automatic nesting software module that allows the operator to select the type of parts to be cut with the relevant material and thickness, number of ordered pieces, and priority. The programmer assigns the pieces to the sheets that are available in the store according to a database kept up-to-date by the customer. The program automatically calculates the best disposition of the parts for the optimization of the sheet metal, using internal scraps for smaller parts. The nesting can also be performed manually Quick Pierce System This feature allows high-speed piercing of thicker materials with very high power resulting in a dramatic reduction of pierce time. It consists of the following: Oil Spray: Prevents the adhesion of material to the surface of the pierce hole. Air Blow: Removes the slag from the area around the pierce hole of 10
