2 Enter a new order Select the Orders section 1. Type the first few letters of a medication or other order in the Add Order field and press Enter. 2. Double-click the order you need from the list that appears. The order appears in the Orders sidebar under the New Orders header. Default information is already filled in. If you need to edit details of the order, such as its dose or frequency, click the blue Summary Sentence link. The Order Composer opens. If you don't see the order you want on the Preference List tab, select the Facility Lookup tab to see more options. Also, make sure that you're spelling the medication name correctly. When in doubt, enter fewer letters. 3. When you've made all necessary changes to the order, click Sign. 4. In the Providers window, enter the order mode. For example, if you're entering a verbal order, select Verbal with readback. 5. Enter the ordering and authorizing providers. If you can't find the correct provider, clear the Filter providers by treatment team members check box. Ordering provider: The person who initiated the order. Authorizing provider: The person with authority to place the order and who is responsible for it. 6. Click Accept. The orders are now active. Manage Orders To review and enter orders, open the Manage Orders activity under More button. The Active Orders tab shows you all the patient's orders sorted by perioperative phase. In addition, you can: Review all current, active orders for the patient on the Active Orders tab. Date Last Printed:8/30/2017 Page 2

3 Place or modify orders on the Order Entry tab. Review and release signed and held orders on the Signed & Held tab. Find and Release Signed and Held Orders Sometimes physicians sign and hold an order to indicate that it should be carried out after the patient reaches a different unit or stage of care. The signed and held order is authorized but won't be acted on until a clinician releases it. Release the signed and held order when the patient reaches the location or stage of care where the order should be acted on. While managing a patient's orders in the Orders activity, view signed and held orders on the Signed & Held tab. Signed and held orders are labeled as: Continue: Indicates existing (active) orders that should be continued in the new unit or next stage of care. New: Indicates orders that should be started at the new unit or next stage of care. Modify, reorder, or discontinue an order 1. Open the Orders activity. All the patient's active orders appear on the Order Entry tab. Date Last Printed:8/30/2017 Page 3

4 a. To discontinue an order, click Discontinue. The order is crossed out and appears under the Orders to Discontinue header in the sidebar. b. To modify an order, click Modify. The order appears under the Orders to Modify header in the sidebar and the Order Composer opens. Edit the details and click Accept when you're finished. c. To reorder an order, click Reorder. The order appears under the Orders to Reorder header in the sidebar and the Order Composer opens. Edit the details and click Accept when you're finished. 2. Click Sign. The Providers window opens. 3. Enter the order mode, ordering provider, and authorizing provider, and click Accept. The orders are modified or discontinued as appropriate. When you modify or reorder an order, it is usually discontinued and replaced with a new order. For meds, this means you'll see two lines on the MAR: one for the new med and one for the discontinued med. Orders are grouped by phase of care. and then by the procedure they are associated with.
