1 Report of one day workshop on GPS Theory, Practices, Applications & Hands on Training The IETE students forum, E&TC Dept. had successfully organized a one day workshop on GPS Theory, Practices, Applications & Hands on Training for the faculty and students on 21 st September, 2013 from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM. IETE coordinator Prof. S.L.Tade & IETE student forum members headed the workshop. Total 61 students& 4 faculties from PCCOE & other colleges participated in the workshop. It was inaugurated with Saraswati Pujan in the morning. Prof. Dr.N.B.Chopade facilitated Prof S.R.Jog& his team. He also expressed his sincere thanks to the IETE technical resource team & IETE students forum for taking initiative in arranging this workshop. Technical Resource Team: 1) Prof.S.R.Jog (HOD E&TC, DYPIET, Chairman IETE), 2) Ms. IshaJamnis, 3) Ms. ShwetaPawar 4) Mr. Deosthali.

2 The workshop was scheduled as given below: Session Activity Duration Theory & presentation covering the GPS Technology 1 Presentation by Video film (Magellan systems USA) Power point presentation on following topics a) Introduction & basics of GPS b) Communication channel, Modulation & frequency Bands c) Data formats d) Receiver Architecture e) GPS 1000 M5/Map60 &Etrex H (Garmin) case study f) Vehicle Tracking System & Mapping on Google Map g) GPS Based Applications & projects. 09:30 to 12:00 AM Lunch Break (12:00 to 12:45 PM)

Prof. Jog & his team emphasized on the necessity of GPS based applications in our day to day life. Also demonstrated standard GPS modules used in civil & military applications. The first session was started with basic concepts of GPS & followed by applications. Few low cost enhancements to vehicle tracking systems using web based GPS navigation tools

4 wasdiscussed.prof. Jog demonstrated some of the GPS based projects implemented under his guidance. Hands-on training started by dividing student participants groups of 12. The groups were sent to the ground & in different sections of institute campus. They were demonstrated the working of Garmin GPS receiver. And the readings of altitude & longitude were taken at different places. In next session, the web based services of GPS technologies were demonstrated. It involved Stoppage analysis, Speeding & Risk Management, Vehicle Details Management Route Planning. The live operation of Vehicle tracking using VTS System demo on Google Map created interest amongst students. Interactive session helped students to get correct remedies over their doubts. The information of GPS commander & Route planning was really new & useful to our students. Faculties & members of various SIG teams have also attended the workshop. IETE cocoordinator Mr. Manish M. 5 &scheduling this event successfully. He also expressed thanks towards Principal Dr. A.M Fulamarkar and H.O.D Dr. N.B. Chopade for full cooperation & encouragement in organizing this event. Also, on the behalf of department & IETE student forum, he expressed thanks to all the faculties, participants, & IETE student coordinators, volunteers. The workshop was ended with tea session, which was organized outside the seminar hall (Room No. 302).
