Streamlining the transport process via electronic trasaction platforms Sarda IT profile - SW development (sea and land transport, interfaces to ext. systems PCS, TOS, ecustoms, shipping co. IT systems) - Subject How Transportation Management System can help in better organization of the cargo transport - Vedran Petrović, Sarda d.o.o., Koblerov trg 2, Rijeka - Rajko Badurina, Sarda d.o.o. Koblerov trg 2, Rijeka - Edvard Tijan, University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime studies, Studentska 2, Rijeka

Common characteristics of the current situation - Numerous IT systems to use - Partial IT solutions for particular steps of the transport cycle - IT systems are separated from each other - Following the transport steps is very complicated

Common characteristics of the current situation - Tracing the process from the begining to the end is not easy - Difficult to predict or detect any possible mistakes or errors - Reporting sources are from different IT systems - Difficult to calculate (predict?) final job result / used resources

How to improve efficiency - by creating order in own system (IT and organisational) - by collecting and synchronising data between own and external systems (manual data entry or messages) - by tracking transportation process steps and statuses

How to improve efficiency - Better option - by integrating with external IT systems - By including financial operations (invoices, inbound / outbound etc.) into unique IT system Benefits are limited, depending on the characteristics of the business environment (PCS?)

TMS the helpful tool TMS characteristics A transportation management system (TMS) is a subset of supply chain management (SCM) concerning transportation operations and may be part of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Pros: - Efficient planning, organising and tracking transportation steps - Integrations between own and external IT systems Cons: - Lack of the uniform standards - Messages - Data exchange protocols

TMS the helpful tool TMS characteristics Result: More control over the business processes Condition: Integration - at least with PCS, ecustoms and sea carriers or service providers ETP (Electronic Transaction Platforms)

TMS Example NAVIS TOS and INTTRA integration AGCT container terminal Forwarding company TMS INTTRA services Provider Sea carriers Maersk Line CMA CGM MSC TOS Booking data Booking service Booking number COPARN EDI CODECO EDI Shiping instructions SI amendments SI service Confirmation DOE order VGM UPDATE VGM service MOVINS EDI COARRI EDI ecustoms CURH UPDATE Track & Trace AES / ECS Customs declaration ECS procedures

Conclusion - Both ilustrations are complicated, since the procedures are complicated - TMS advantage data is stored in TMS - Data is generated in TMS or is automaticaly received from external apps and stored in TMS
