1 Contribute to the conversion of fibreboard by printing and slotting Overview This standard is about running the Printing and Slotting processes in conversion of Fibreboard. You must show that in a safe and efficient manner, you can identify job requirements; follow instructions; assist in the Make Ready and Production processes for Printing and Slotting; assist with stacking finished product and undertake basis fault identification. 1

2 Performance criteria Contribute to making ready the printing/slotting process You must be able to: P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 P6 P7 P8 P9 check that you have all the details for the job obtain and assist in the checking of materials for the job promptly report to your manager if the materials provided are not correct or sufficient work safely following the company s safe working practices assist in the checking of print drawings, plates and inks so that they match the job details assist in making the printing/slotting process ready to run safely and efficiently so that: P6.1 materials are fed squarely into the machine P6.2 the position of the slots and the print is correct P6.3 the ink shade is correct P6.4 variations in slotting and printing positions are within your company allowances P6.5 the process runs at the required speed assist in the checking of production samples so that they match the required standard make adjustments when the standards are not met promptly report to your manager if the standards cannot be met Contribute to the running of the printing/slotting process You must be able to: P10 assist in the safe start up and shut down of the process P11 contribute to the running of the printing/slotting process so that: P10.1 it runs at the required speed P10.2 it runs safely and efficiently P12 effectively communicate to other members of the team faults which could result in: P12.1 unacceptable variation in printing or slotting position P12.2 inadequate ink coverage P12.3 shade variation P12.4 marking or distortion to the product that can be identified and actioned promptly P13 assist in correcting faults P14 promptly report faults that you cannot rectify P15 follow the correct procedure for the removal of waste P16 stack work safely using the approved methods P17 where required accurately record production and quality assurance details P18 assist in the preparation of product for transit P19 where required, accurately record production and quality assurance details 2

3 Knowledge and understanding Contribute to the making ready of the dry end process You need to know and understand: K1 K2 K3 K4 K5 K6 K7 K8 K9 what details you need for the job the sequence of set up tasks for required finish how to synchronize the relevant standards the principles of printing and slotting the types of inks and plates ink viscosity the risks associated with making ready printing/slotting processes and how to avoid them what the common printing and slotting faults are, what causes them and how to correct them the emergency shut down procedures Contribute to the running of the dry end process You need to know and understand: K10 your company s quality standards K11 your company s production efficiencies K12 the principles of printing and slotting K13 how to synchronise the relevant standards K14 the risks associated with running machinery and how to avoid them K15 when stereos and slotting tools need replacing K16 the common printing and slotting faults, what causes them and how to correct them K17 what other faults may occur during production K18 how to recognise when you should correct faults and when you should ask for help K19 to whom specific faults must be reported K20 the procedures for the removal of waste K21 what production and quality assurance records you are required to keep K22 how to safely stack, lift and handle the product K23 the company s identification and labelling systems 3

4 Scope/range related to performance criteria You must show that you can contribute to making ready printing and slotting processes consistently in the workplace. You must show that: 1 you obtain the following materials: 1.1 fibreboard sheets 1.2 inks 1.3 plates 2 you can confirm that the process is ready for production by: 2.1 visual examination 2.2 test run 2.3 checking the control settings 3 you check the quality of samples against your company s quality standards for: 3.1 the position of slots and print 3.2 the cleanness of the slotting and printing 3.3 the correct shade of print You must show that you can contribute to the running of the printing and slotting process consistently in the workplace. You must show that: 1 you contribute to the checking of samples against your company quality standards and job details for: 1.1 the position of slots and print 1.2 the slotting and printing is clean 1.3 the print is the correct shade 2 you identify and report the following types of faults: 2.1 damage to output 2.2 output out of specification 2.3 recurring process faults 2.4 process faults which need others expertise to rectify 4
