4 ROSATOM S APPROACH TO PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE ROSATOM s approach to public acceptance activities is based on the following principles: Full compliance with IAEA recommendations, combination of Russian and international experience Stakeholders segmentation and direct contact with all stakeholders Promoting basic knowledge about radiation and nuclear science; providing transparent and reliable information on NPP safety, SNF and RW treatment Delivering information on social and economic benefits of nuclear energy on both national and local levels Emphasizing the role of nuclear technologies in non-energy related areas: medicine, agriculture, etc. and all mistakes, quality and completeness of the information. 4

11 ROSATOM INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN PROJECTS THIS CAMP MADE ME SURPRISED, FUN AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME: IT IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CAMPS THAT I VISITED NUCKIDS IS A FAMILY. EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATES IN THIS SUMMER PROJECT BECOMES MEMBERS OF ONE LARGE FAMILY KEY FIGURES 150 children participated last year Children from over 10 countries Camps have already been organized in Russia, Bulgaria, Finland, Thailand KEY FIGURES 1000 applications every year 80 children in each project Unique musical performance was demonstrated in 8 cities and all mistakes, quality and completeness of the information. 11

15 Crisis Management THE KUDANKULAM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT (INDIA) CASE STUDY 1 CRISIS 2 ROSATOM S RESPONSE 3 RESULT The local community rallied to block the Kudankulam NPP construction site ROSATOM arranged a tour for the local anti-nuclear activists to the Tianwan NPP in China, convincing them that the Russian nuclear technologies comply with the highest safety standards Two units of the Kudankulam NPP are currently online Lack of knowledge instills fears. ROSATOM shows people how safe NPP s are, dispelling those fears and earning loyalty of the local population. Nowadays, sailors use the Kudankulam NPP as a beacon, but, once commissioned, the plant will serve a much greater cause. and all mistakes, quality and completeness of the information. 15

16 Crisis Management THE HANHIKIVI NUCLEAR POWER PLANT (FINLAND) CASE STUDY 1 CRISIS While preparing the project, we conducted studies that showed that the construction of the Hanhikivi NPP could pose a threat to the population of the marsh frog Crisis Sommunications Scheme 2 ROSATOM S RESPONSE ROSATOM sponsored a project to relocate this species to a safer environment. We waited for the swamp frogs to awake from their hibernation and only after they awoke we did successfully move them to new safety environment. 3 RESULT The ceremony of the beginning of works on the site was held on January 22, 2016 and all mistakes, quality and completeness of the information. 16

17 WILD EDENS Wild Edens initiative draws global attention to the issue of global climate change WHAT? Shooting and broadcasting on the National Geographic TV channel of three full-length documentaries about unique ecosystems that may disappear due to global warming. WHERE? The series includes films about unique animals of Russia; Turkey; India and Bangladesh The first two films have been broadcast 1076 times in 155 countries with a potential reach of over 630 mln people. The third film premiered in Mumbai on March 19. The entire Wild Edens series will be presented at the upcoming ATOMEXPO forum. 17
