2 Intelligence Led Policing in Speed Zones Conceptual assistance, data analysis and photography was provided by District Chicago Trooper Dave Keltner (Technical Crash Reconstruction Officer). Statistics/Trends are for District Chicago (Cook County) Interstates only.

3 Intelligence Led Policing in Speed Zones Patrolling by driving around vs. Intelligence Led Policing

4 Intelligence Led Policing in Speed Zones Patrolling by driving around vs. Intelligence Led Policing District Chicago continuously analyzes crash data to determine the most efficient method(s) of patrolling

25 Data Collection and Analysis District CAD Zone Analysis Separates Interstates by Zone. For example, Interstate 290 contains 24 zones. It classifies types of calls and the time spent on those types of calls. It also classifies total number of calls for service, the average response time, time on scene and total incident hours.

30 District Chicago Problem Response IL 394 south bound from 183 rd to Glenwood/Lansing Road. There is a curve to the left just south of 183 rd that has proven to be a fatal spot. As the road curves, vehicles go off the roadway into the right ditch and strike a tree, resulting in death. I have reconstructed two fatals there, but have known that many, possibly 10 fatals have occurred there, mostly southbound with some north bound crossover.

37 183rd Glenwood Lansing Road

38 Recommendation My first suggestion is a guard rail, not cable rail, be installed on the right lane south bound shoulder from 183 rd to Glenwood/Lansing Road. Second would be cable rail placed in the median along the same points to assist with crossover crashes.

39 District Chicago Problem Response We have had numerous serious injury crashes, including fatals, on the ramp from I-80 I east bound to I-57 I north bound.

43 Ramp from I-80 I e/b to I-57 I n/b

44 Recommendation Add signage and a guardrail from I-80 I east bound to I-57 I north. Additionally, rumble strips/stripes to slow cars down would help (Problem Oriented Policing Project).
