Woolworths Meat Company Driver Induction

Introduction

Introduction Welcome! Today, you re going to spend some time looking at the types of things you ll need to know to fulfil your role as a driver for Woolworths Meat Company. All drivers are required to complete this induction module before arriving at a Woolworths Meat Company site.

Topics In this module, you'll explore: 1.Key responsibilities. 2.Procedures to follow: When arriving on site When arriving at loading docks During the loading and unloading process When exiting the site. 3.Q &A. This induction should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Let s get started!

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities There are a few things you need to know before you make your way to a Woolworths Meat Company site. These include: 1.Safety. 2.Emergency procedures. 3.Materials Handling Equipment (MHE), loading equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 4.Smoking, drugs and alcohol. 5.Passengers and pets. 6.Chain of Responsibility.

Your responsibilities Safety The safety of all employees, contractors and visitors is essential at Woolworths Meat Company. While on site, you have a responsibility to act and work in a safe manner at all times and to follow all instructions, policies and procedures.

Your responsibilities Emergency Procedures Thankfully emergencies are a rare occurrence, however, we need to be prepared just in case. If you re driving on site during an emergency evacuation, stop your vehicle, and leave it in a stationary position with the handbrake on. Ensure the keys are out and await instructions. Each site has an evacuation procedure to ensure that all employees, visitors and contractors are out of danger. In the case of an evacuation: 1.If you are in an enclosed area, leave it quickly and calmly via the nearest and safest exit 2.Make your way to, and remain in, the assembly area unless you are instructed to do otherwise by an area (Red Helmet) or chief fire warden (White Helmet) 3.Re-enter the site or work area when you have been given the all clear to return. If you are not driving on site during an emergency event/evacuation and performing another task you must render the area safe, switch off all equipment and exit to the emergency assembly area.

Your responsibilities Mobile Equipment and PPE Material Handling Equipment (MHE) When you arrive on site, you'll notice a wide range of Woolworths Meat Company MHE. Remember not to use this equipment. If you need help, ask one of our friendly staff members. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) In any operational area (when you are in danger of being hit by moving equipment or vehicles), PPE must be worn including Australian Standard approved: High visibility shirt / vest (Daylight Hours) Reflective visibility shirt / vest (At Night) Fully enclosed footwear - no thongs or sandals.

Your responsibilities Smoking, drugs and alcohol Smoking is permitted on site, however only in designated areas which vary from site to site. Please ask for the location of these areas before lighting up. Illicit or non-prescription drugs and alcoholic products for personal consumption must not be brought onto Woolworths Meat Company premises. If you are found to be consuming any of these products, you'll be asked to leave the site immediately.

Your responsibilities Passengers and pets Passengers and pets are not permitted on site at any time.

Your responsibilities Chain of Responsibility Woolworths Meat Company recognises the need for safe and efficient transport and is committed to complying with the Chain of Responsibility. When entering a Woolworths Meat Company site, you'll be fit for work and your vehicle will be expected to comply with state/federal legislation. Remember, as a truck driver, it's up to you to make sure: Your vehicle does not exceed mass and dimension limits Your load is appropriately restrained Your driving hours are adhered to and recorded You stay within allocated speed limits Monitoring and recording vehicle devices are not tampered with Rest breaks are taken. You may be requested to provide evidence of your fitness to drive. This may include a drug test, alcohol test or confirmation of rest breaks. Your vehicle may also be inspected or weighed to ensure compliance with mass and load restraint.

Arriving on site

Arriving on site You ve just arrived at Woolworths Meat Company facility. The first thing you need to do is to report on arrival so you can find out where you need to go. Upon arrival to the site, you may be asked for some information including (not limited to); Your mobile number License Number Your Name Details of your work/break times Number of pallets on the delivery

Arriving on site Driving to a parking bay After arriving on site, you may be instructed to park in a marked bay or alternative area. At all times you must follow the traffic procedures below. Wear your seat belt Stick to the speed limit on allocated signage. If there is no sign, stick to a speed limit of 10km/h Always give way to reversing trucks and pedestrians.

Arriving at the loading docks

Arriving at the loading docks Loading/unloading can take place in an open area or in a loading dock. Our loading docks use a dock light system to help with safety. Let s take a look at the steps to follow during the flush dock process: 1.Remember, only reverse toward your allocated dock when the dock light system is green. 2.Make sure the rear doors of your truck or trailer are closed or secured before reversing your vehicle. 3.Reverse fully on to the dock. 4.Warehouse staff will open the dock doors. 5.If applicable, open barn doors before fully engaging with the dock. You should never reverse into or pull out of a dock when the dock light is red. If this occurs, you may be disciplined which may mean exclusion from the site. If there is no light showing on a dock, it must be treated as though it is red. Notify management if this situation occurs

After docking You ve been driving for a few hours now and you re glad to be parked so you can climb out of your vehicle to stretch your legs. After docking, the following procedures must be followed; Ensure your park/maxi brake is on Remove keys from the ignition Await instructions from the transport office

During the loading and unloading process

During loading and unloading There are a few procedures to follow during the on grade loading and unloading process. These include: Wait in the driver safe zone area. If there is no area allocated, wait at the front of the cab or prime mover. Avoid waiting in the cabin during loading or unloading. Never be within two meters of a moving forklift. If you need to talk to the forklift driver, signal your intent to approach him or her and then wait until the forklift stops and isn't moving before approaching. Hand in your keys. During trailer loading/unloading various types of vehicle/trailer restraints may be used to avoid a vehicle moving prematurely. Key retention is one method of restraint used to avoid uncontrolled departures.

Amenities We're almost ready to hit the road again. While your waiting for loading/offloading to finish, you may want to use the amenities. Some sites have facilities available including: Tea and coffee Showers and toilets Designated smoking facilities

Getting ready to go The site representative indicates to you that he/she has finished unloading/loading all the pallets from/to your truck. To get ready to set out on your next journey you must make sure that you; Secure your doors Ensure your load has been adequately restrained Only ever depart from a dock when the light is green

Exiting the site

Exiting the site As you exit the site: Follow the signs and leave via the security/exit gate If applicable report to the security officer before driving through the checkpoint Leave a three meter gap between the front of your truck and the rear of any vehicle in front and apply your parking brake If asked by site personnel, use the weighbridge and procedure to verify the weight of your load or vehicle is compliant to regulated limits.

Summary

Summary and Well Done! Great job! You ve completed the Woolworths Meat Company Driver Induction. You ve reached the end of all the topics. Hopefully you have a better understanding of your responsibilities and how to act and work in a safe manner at all times on site. Along the way, you ve become familiar with the procedures to follow when arriving and docking on site as well as the loading and unloading process. You've found out about the driver safe zone and the facilities available. And you've explored the safety measures to follow as you exit the site to set out on your next journey.
