4 TOULON-ROME: THE FIRST MoS BETWEEN ITALY AND FRANCE Start of service: 1st semester 2005 Joint venture between Grimaldi Group & Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Deployment of a modern ro/pax vessel TOULON CIVITAVECCHIA Ports served: Rome (Civitavecchia) & Toulon (+ Porto Vecchio in summer time). Transit time: 15 hours Frequency: three times a week both ways 4

11 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED The fierce competition from road transport; The cost of fuel; The big fluctuation of volumes shipped by car manufacturers; The lack of adequate berthing and storage facilities; The road-driven mentality of truck operators; The lack of a daily frequency service; 11 Heavy bureaucratic procedures compared to road transport.

12 SOLUTIONS Introduce the eco-bonus concept Europe-wide; Strengthen the port infrastructure (berthing and storage facilities); Upgrade the inland connections (especially rail); Grant special port tariffs tailor-made to vessels operating in a MoS; 12 Reduce & simplify the administrative procedures.

13 OBJECTIVES FOR THE FUTURE Cooperation agreements with other major logistics operators to offer rail/sea integrated logistics solutions; Alliances with Greek, Turkish & Croatian maritime companies (ex: Landbridge project with LD Lines); Move to a daily frequency service. 13
