Admiralty charts are nautical charts, issued by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. More than 3,000 charts are available and cover nearly the entire world. It s detail depending on the density of traffic and hazards. Normally large-scale charts often cover approaches and entrances to harbours, medium-scale charts cover heavily used coastal areas, and small-scale charts are for navigation in more open areas. Charts include: depths, coastline, bouyage, land and underwater contour lines, seabed composition, hazards, tidal information, prominent land features, traffic separation schemes, lights etc. 22. 6 25. DEFINE ISM Code? International safety management (ISM) code means the International management code for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention. Enforcement date 1st July 2002 (for all types of ships). Port State Control normally checks & controls the ISM code requirements. Under ISM Code, there are two certificates, these are, 1. Safety Management Certificate (SMC) for ship, validity 5 years. 2. Document of Compliance (DOC) for ship s shore office, validity 5 years. 26. What are the Objectives of ISM? Objectives: 1. Observe safe operation of ships 2. Prevent pollution 3. Prevent loss of life and damage 4. Project environment 27. What are IGC Code, and IBC Code? IMDG Code - International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. IBC Code - International Bulk Chemical code. 28. What is MSO? MSO- Merchant Shipping Ordinance. 29. What is ISO? Document signed by an officer (normally Chief Officer) of a vessel, evidencing receipt of a shipment onboard the vessel. It is not a document of title and is issued as an interim measure, until a proper bill of lading can be issued. In other words, it is a declaration issued by an officer, of a vessel stating that certain goods have been received on board the vessel. 36. What is Bill of lading? It s a document that serves as an proof of the contract of carriage of goods, which is signed by a carrier (the transporter of goods) or the carrier's representative and issued to a consignor (the shipper of goods). It is also an evidences the receipt of goods for shipment to a specified destination and person. It is negotiable, since it can serve as a document of ownership, which allows ownership to the goods to be transferred by endorsement and delivery of the bill of lading. It contains the names of the consignor (shipper), consignee (receiver), master of the ship, the name of the ship and also voyage number, the place of departure (Port of loading) and destination (port of discharge), the price of the freight, the date of loading; the marks and numbers of the things shipped. 37. What is Ocean Bill of Lading? Ocean Bill of lading is issued by shipping lines, covering only port to port shipments of conventional cargo and sometimes containerized cargo. 38. What is Through Bill of Lading? The "through" bill of lading concept allows door to door shipments to be covered by a bill of lading. This concept is more common for containerized cargoes and is carried out using multi modal transportation (road/ rail + sea + road/rail). 39. What is Clean Bill of Lading? It declares that the goods have been received in an appropriate condition, without the presence of defects. 40. What is Unclean Bill of Lading? It s a bill containing doubts, as to the good order and condition of the goods or the packaging or both. Examples: "bags torn," "drums leaking,'' and "one case damaged". 8

9 41. What is Letter of Indemnity (indemnity bond)? It s a written undertaking by a third party (such as a bank or insurance company), on behalf of one of the parties (the first party), to a transaction or contract, to cover the other party (the second party), against specific loss or damage occurring out the action (or a failure to act) of the first party. 42. What is Cargo manifest? It is a manifest that lists only cargo, without freight and charges. This document is more applicable to port authorities and for customs purposes. 43. What is Freight manifest? It is a (cargo) manifest, including all freight particulars: This document is more applicable to the agent or the finance department of the carrier. 44. What is Air waybill? A receipt issued by an international courier company for goods and a proof of the contract of carriage, but it is not a document of title to the goods. It s non-negotiable. 9
