8 Port Joins Green Marine Program Green Marine s environmental program makes it possible for ports, terminal operators, and shipping companies to voluntarily reduce their environmental footprint through a comprehensive program that addresses key environmental issues and criteria using 11 performance indicators including air emissions, community impacts, and environmental leadership. Participants are required to demonstrate year-overyear improvement in measurable ways to maintain their Green Marine certification. The program is completely transparent with all results independently verified and made public. Port Everglades is the first Florida port to join

11 Florida Power & Light FPL's plan is to transform the old power plant into a highefficiency, combined-cycle natural gas energy center. The new Port Everglades Next Generation Clean Energy Center will be constructed by 2016 and will: be 35 percent more fuel-efficient create 650 direct jobs at peak construction cut carbon dioxide emissions in half produce enough electricity to power 260,000 homes and businesses require no additional cooling water or land keep the cost of electricity low and help Florida be more energy independent

13 Baseline Inventory Development Development of a baseline emissions inventory for 2012 and will include the following two tasks: Task 1. Develop an activity-based inventory for the Port, to include port facilities and operations 1A. Port direct mobile sources, vehicles, equipment 1B. a screening level inventory for the Florida Power and Light (FP&L) power station 1C. a screening level inventory for transitory non-port related marine traffic i.e. Intracoastal Waterway 1D. facilitation of the Technical Working Group and Stakeholder Working Group

14 Baseline Inventory Development Development of a baseline emissions inventory for 2012 and will include the following two tasks: Task 2. provide technical and policy support to the Port relating to the Environmental Protection Agency s (EPA) Micro-Assessment Optional Services include additional EPA support, enhanced vessel characterization, SWG results meeting, enhanced emission metrics, ECA regulation effects, Ft. Lauderdale /Hollywood International Airport emissions screening.

16 EPA Partnership - Background As part of EPA s Ports Initiative, the Office of Transportation and Air Quality issued a call for interest: U.S. EPA is Seeking to Partner with a Port Authority to Assess Port-Related Emissions Reduction Strategies The objective of this opportunity is to refine and demonstrate quantitative methodologies that ports, their stakeholders, researchers and others could use to assess the potential for future criteria pollutant and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions under various technology and operational implementation scenarios. Port Everglades submitted a letter to EPA and was selected in 2014 More details on EPA s Ports Initiative at:

17 Port Everglades- EPA Partnership Port Everglades and EPA will work together to: Develop baseline and future year emission inventories, and Evaluate effective technology and operational strategy scenarios This partnership will help Port Everglades and EPA: Understand the Port s progress to date, and Identify opportunities to further improve the environment in South Florida This work will also inform future data and methods, lessons learned, and practical examples to share with other ports and stakeholders to support sustainable development

18 Overview of Micro Port Assessment Port Everglades will develop a baseline year emission inventory EPA to serve in a technical advisory role EPA and Port Everglades will work together to develop: Future year emission inventories for 2020, 2030, and 2050 Emission reduction strategy scenarios for: Trucks Locomotives Cargo handling equipment Harbor craft Ocean-going vessels Emissions analysis of road, rail, and/or marine corridors
