1 Page No. 1 of 8 1 RITES PROFILE : 1.1 RITES Limited (RITES) was incorporated in 1974 for rendering consultancy services for Railways in India and abroad. RITES established itself as a leading international consultancy organisation in railway-related technology with the technical and managerial support of the Indian Railways - one of the largest and financially sound Railway Systems under unitary control in the world. In the context of changing environment, from 1984 onwards RITES diversified its business into other sectors like Highways & Bridges, Airports, Ports, Water Resources & Waterways, Aerial Ropeways, Urban Transport, Urban Development & Environmental Engineering, Telecommunication, Information Technology, Materials Procurement. 1.2 The services offered by RITES include concept to commissioning consultancy, project management, design and engineering, procurement, quality assurance, export, training, planning and development activities in the field of transportation (Rail, Highway, Waterway), infrastructure and related technologies. The details of services offered are given as below: Airports: Provides consultancy services in the field of airport and associated infrastructure. Broad spectrum of services include surveys, site selection, air traffic demand forecasting, master planning, feasibility studies and project Management. Architecture and Planning : Provides consultancy in architectural and planning services and related engineering, preparation of estimates and tender documents, landscape and area development proposals for various types of projects.

2 Page No. 2 of 8 Civil Engineering Design: Provides consultancy services in the field of Rail, Road and Rail-cum- Road Bridges and Rail & Road Tunnels as well as Topographic & Hydrographic survey along with Hydraulic Studies for Bridges. Construction Management Provides services in the field of construction project management consultancy covering preparation of feasibility study, detailed project report, conceptual planning, detailed engineering, quantity surveying and tendering, construction management including quality assurance of works including measurement and certification of bills, monitoring during defect liability period and third party inspection of works etc for construction of Railway sidings, ROB/RUB s, Building works and other allied civil works. Civil Engineering Survey: Provides services to survey ground features, process the data and develop drawings for the proposed structure. Electrical Engineering: Provides consultancy and project management services in the field of Electrical Engineering viz. Railway Electrification, Rural Electrification, Internal & External Electrification works for buildings / housing colonies, Captive / stand by Diesel Generating Stations, EHT/ HT/ LT Substations & Transmission Lines, Power Supply Distribution System, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems, Illumination and lighting for buildings, colonies and airports and third party inspection of works for Rural Electrification & Power Distribution Systems Expotech: Provides services for export and leasing of rolling stocks, providing maintenance support, training, spare parts and sub assemblies.

3 Page No. 3 of 8 Geo Technology: Provides consultancy in the field of engineering geology, exploration, geophysics, hydrology, geo-technical engineering and foundation design. Highway Engineering: Provides consultancy in the field of highways/ road at national/ state and regional level, covering planning, techno-economic studies, geo-technical investigation, detailed design, construction supervision and Management Information Technology: Provides services for carrying out System studies, design, development and implementation of software including hardware sizing, selection and networking solutions. Materials System Management: Provides Consultancy for procurement of goods, works and services for projects funded by International Funding organizations as well as by Government of India. Operation and Maintenance: Provides Management, operation and maintenance services for captive rail systems, other private railway sidings, railways etc to various clients in India and overseas. Ports and Water Resources : Provides services in ports & harbor, inland water transport, water resources, reservoir sedimentation and oceanographic fields. The services include planning, design, topographic and hydrographic surveys, detailed engineering and project management. The services also include preparation of feasibility and detailed project reports.

4 Page No. 4 of 8 Privatization & Concessions: Technical & financial Services on developing privatization projects such as BOT (Build Operate Transfer), participation in privatization / concession projects as equity partners and provide technical assistance to concessions / operators on Railway related projects. Quality Assurance: Third party inspection, quality surveillance of materials, components, assemblies and equipment for both railway and non-railway sectors. Also provides consultancy services in the field of Quality Management Systems (QMS), TQM, Environmental Management Systems, Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, Laboratory Quality Management Systems, HACCP, Social Accountability Management Systems related comprehensive consultancy, training & audits. Also provides consultancy in the field of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Rolling Stock Division Provides consultancy services for undertaking Finite element modeling and analysis, Design & development of Rolling stock, Rolling stock related projects and other technical services with respect to rolling stock manufacture. Ropeways and Industrial Engineering: Provides services for revival of sick industries, modernization of existing workshops, project management for laying of pipelines, pre feasibility study, feasibility study, detailed project report and project management for passenger ropeways. Signalling and Telecommunication : Provides services covering conceptual design, planning, detailed engineering, project management and turnkey executions in the areas of Telecommunications covering optical fibre systems, radio based systems, switching systems etc. and Railway Signalling Systems

5 Page No. 5 of 8 covering train protection & warning systems, road signaling systems etc. Traffic & Economics: Conducts studies to estimate the demand for traffic mainly pertaining to the bulk rail transportation of bulk commodities (coal, iron ore, cement, fertilizers, food grains, iron & steel etc) as also for containers and multimodal transport and then designs the rail infrastructure to cater to these demands. It conducts traffic surveys and also carries out the financial appraisal of transport projects. Training: Provides consultancy for design and delivery of training programmes, manpower planning, planning of training infrastructure and training related consultancy. Mass Transport: Provides consultancy services in all aspects of Mass Transport Planning, design, management and operations, low cost traffic engineering and management measures to high end rail based mass transit systems. Urban Engineering: Provides consultancy services in the field of Urban Planning and Urban infrastructure which include water supply, sewerage, solid waste management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental audit and preparation of environmental management plans and training. 2. QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AT RITES : 2.1 Quality Management System of RITES covers the entire RITES organisation as per the organisational structure of RITES. RITES operates through a number of Strategic Business Units (SBU s) merging

6 Page No. 6 of 8 into Divisions which report to Functional Directors. The system covers all services for clients in India or abroad executed through SBU s / Divisions. RITES Quality Management System consists of Corporate Quality Management System supplemented by SBU level Quality Management System. At the level of SBU s their own systems have been documented covering the nature of activities performed by them. These are largely managed through SBU Heads with SBU level MR s under them, merging into the Corporate System. 3 MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION : 3.1 Corporate Quality Manual contains the Corporate Quality Policy & Objectives of RITES, approved by the, RITES. In its various chapters, it highlights the organisation s approach and philosophy towards management of quality with respect to services provided by RITES to be followed by all SBUs. The Corporate Quality Manual applies to all the SBUs of RITES. Corporate Quality Procedures cover mandatory procedures as per ISO 9001:2008 as well as other procedures which are common throughout RITES. At SBU level, SBU s have documented procedures in areas other than Corporate Procedures, which are specific to the services of the SBU concerned. 3.2 At SBU level, SBU documentation exists as supplement to the Corporate Quality Management System. They bring out the salient aspects of SBU level Quality Management System. In Transport Infra Division, for all SBUs located at Corporate Office, the above documents have been developed at Divisional level and approved by Divisional Head / TI. 2. In case of QA, for all SBUs under it, the above documents have been developed at Divisional level and approved by Divisional Head /QA. 3. In case of Expotech Division, Division and SBU are same. 3.3 Issue of Corporate Quality Manual: Corporate Management Representative is authorized to execute the activities of preparing, updating, revising and amending the corporate quality manual with the consultation of Steering Committee and approval of MD. The distribution of manual and release of amendments is through display on RITES Web-Site and is controlled by Corporate Management Representative. Any hard copy of the manual is issued only by the Corporate Management Representative as uncontrolled copy and such copies of the manual are stamped UNCONTROLLED on each page. These uncontrolled copies do not come under the purview of document amendment procedure. Uncontrolled copies may be issued for purposes such as publicity, business developments etc. 3.4 Revision and Amendment of Corporate Quality Manual: Once in three years, the entire quality manual will be reviewed by Corporate Management Representative for revision. On revision the entire quality manual will be re-issued with a new Issue No. Amendment to

8 Page No. 8 of 8 individual sheets of the corporate quality manual is possible. On amendment, page (s) is re-issued with a new Page Revision No. The revisions / amendments are approved by MD prior to issue. Each amendment / revision is introduced formally by the issue of a new sheet / document as the case may be. One hard copy of invalid sheet / document is retained by the Corporate Management Representative in archives for future reference. Obsolete copies retained with Corporate Management Representative shall be stamped OBSOLETE on all pages.
