2 MEC Container Safety Systems GmbH Introduction MEC Container Safety Systems is a technique specialized German engineering company with more than 25 years experience in lashing equipment. First class quality MEC stands for competence and reliability in combination with flexibility and first class service/quality. This philosophy is justified by high standard technique as well as class approved systems and fittings. Our range of services and deliveries comprises the elaboration of opti - mized stowage systems in close cooperation with Shipyards and Shipown - ers, taking into consideration the practical requirements to the vessel. The development and production of fixed and loose fittings for container ships, PCTC s and RoRo carriers is approved by all major classification societies as DNV GL, LRoS and ABS. Our production facility is a 100 % owned subsidiary with technical know-how and quality control according to German standards. In our head-office in Hamburg, all design projects like cellguide systems, lashing bridges, container stanchions and working platforms are elabo rated by well experienced shipbuilding engineers. Different levels of lashing bridges depending on size of ship. Cell Guides on Deck Optimized stowage arrangements for highest possible stack loads and best possible weight distribution. Special attention to outermost stacks due to additional wind forces. Platforms Safety at work in combination with as fast as possible working procedures are relevant for the commercial success of a container ship. Working platforms at level of hatch cover with direct access to the stanchions is an optimal solution, preferably on both sides of the ship
29 DESIGN AND CONSULTING MANUAL Blind Frames Container blind frames or trestles offer high flexibility to ship owners to stow containers even on places that are not especially fitted for carriage of those. Container capacity is increased without extremely high investment, space without use is reduced as much as possible. Installation can be fixed or removable. Container Lashing Manual The Container Lashing Manual is a lashing plan which has to be approved by the relevant classification society and must be kept on board. 30 MANUAL OFFSET PLAN Cargo Securing Manual The Cargo Securing Manual (CSM) complies with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The CSM is generally approved by classification societies on behalf of the flag state of the vessels. Deck and Hold Offset plans are indicating the exact position of sockets, single and double lashing plates on weather deck and guide fittings and welding cones in hold. When receiving an order for fixed lashing equipment, MEC always prepares offset drawings if not otherwise specified. Offset drawing do not need to be approved by classification societies. Following information is part of the CSM: securing equipment material lists of fixed & loose lashing equipment information about different components safe working load proof load, breaking load material information name of maker maintenance instruction and handling information of lashing equipment copy of the approved container lashing manual acceleration factors of different example calculations and further annexes 58 59
