5 Introduction The information in this manual covers the installation of the VCR-RK-1 Rack Mount for the VCR30RT and VCR480TL Video Cassette Recorders. These units should be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials. Read these instructions through completely before attempting installation. The VCR-RK-1 Rack Mount is specifically designed to permit the installation of the VCR30RT and VCR480TL Video Cassette Recorders in an EIA standard 19-inch equipment rack. The VCR-RK-1 consists of two side support brackets, a front bezel and appropriate hardware. Installation Unpacking and Inspection All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier s responsibility to deliver the equipment in the same condition as it left the factory. Inspection For Visible Damage Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. Make a note of any visible damage on all copies of the carrier s freight bill. Make sure the carrier s agent (the person making the delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the agent does not have claim forms, contact the carrier s office. Inspection For Concealed Damage As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the carton or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the carrier immediately and request forms for filing a damage claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the carrier to inspect the damaged equipment. If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual. Rack Mount Components Prior to starting assembly, become familiar with the components in the mounting kit. The rack-mounting kit includes the following parts: Left side support bracket Right side support bracket Front bezel. Additionally, the accessory kit supplied contains a variety of screws and hardware required to assemble the rack mount. Refer to Table 1. Screws of a type suitable to attach the VCR mount to the EIA rack are required. These are commonly No screws, but individual rack manufacturers may use other types; these screws must be provided by the installer. Refer to Figure 4 for an overall installation diagram. Place the VCR on its left side and remove the two (2) screws from the side of the video cassette recorder (VCR). Refer to Figure Place the right side support bracket against the right side of the VCR, with the support flange under the VCR and the rack mount flange toward the front of the VCR. Refer to Figures Attach the right side support bracket to the VCR using the 8 x 3/4 pan head screws with the lock washers and flat washers provided (use lock washer first). 4. Repeat steps 1-3 (turn VCR on its right side in step 1) to attach the left side support bracket. 5. Slide the VCR and support assembly into the 19-inch rack-mounting unit. Attach the assembly by screwing the slotted rack flange to the rack with screws appropriate for the particular rack. See Figure Attach the front bezel by aligning the four (4) countersunk holes with the holes on rack mount flanges and secure with the four black 4 x 3/8 screws and washers (on some models) provided. 9 Maintenance The VCR-RK-1 rack mount requires no scheduled maintenance. The front bezel may be dusted with a soft cloth as needed. Shipping Instructions Use the following procedure when returning a unit to the factory: 1. Call or write Vicon for a Return Authorization (R.A.) at one of the locations listed below. Complete description of the problem and circumstances under which it occurs f. Unit s original date of purchase, if still under warranty 3. Pack the unit carefully.
