Struggle woman is an ideology about equivalence of gender of feminism. It is focused on men and women, whereas their positions were discussed by feminist. Man and woman are similar human who created by God s creature. The God gave gift, happiness, and the freedom in their life. Every human have the right to get all of their rightful authority. But it is different from the rightful authority of them in patriarchal system. In patriarchal system, man and woman are different. Besides of gender that differentiates of them, it is caused if man has the authority full than woman. The positions of men is important than women in sociality. Men always consider a woman just a slave and attendant. A wife must obey to her husband and a daughter must obey to her father and her brother without obstacle. The aim of this research is to find what are the kinds of Jahanara s conceptions of authority of patriarchal system in John Shors Beneath a Marble Sky: A novel of the Taj Mahal and how does the authority of patriarchal system influence on Jahanara s life as a princess in John Shors Beneath a Marble Sky: A novel of the Taj Mahal. As the object of the research, the researcher chooses a novel and collecting of data from Beneath a Marble Sky: a Novel of the Taj Mahal that was produced by McPherson & Company, directed by John Shors in It is caused if a novel of John Shors Beneath a Marble Sky: a novel of the Taj Mahal has many problems about gender especially about feminism. In this case, the researcher uses descriptive method as a method in analyzing of data. Descriptive method is a research method explains and delineates about one of situation without engage object being research. The researcher analyzes Jahanara s life from her life as a daughter, as a princess, as a sister, as a wife and as Jahanara her self in the authority of patriarchal system in Mughal Empire. Thus, it gets the influence from her life toward Jahanara s life. In the technique of analyzing data, the researcher uses several techniques, such as: identifying, analyzing and making conclusions all of data that are related with Jahanara s struggle based on feminist theory. At the end, the researcher finds the result of this research. First Jahanara s conception of the authority of patriarchal system seizes woman s life with the rules. Second, although Jahanara is a princess who is the daughter of the Emperor, she does not have authority in the Empire especially in the government. Third, a woman who is married has a responsibility for her husband not for her father. Fourth, woman has not important positions in the authority of patriarchal system. Whereas from her conceptions of the authority of patriarchal system, Jahanara becomes brave to break the authority of patriarchal system because she feels that her life cannot be free and she cannot have the authority although she is a princess. i
