1 Board Approved: 10/16/12 Employee Signature DEFINITION TRANSPORTATION, SECURITY, AND Salary Grade 28 Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Business and taking direction from the Director of Operations and Maintenance, supervises, plans, organizes, and implements the student transportation program, security, and district maintenance. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Transportation, Security, and Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for transportation, security, and school maintenance repairs. Work is often required to be performed independently, although some activities may be performed in crews. The Transportation, Security, and Maintenance Supervisor operates at the journeyman level in one or more of the building trades requiring precision tools; is able to perform a variety of skilled or semi-skilled tasks in all areas of school maintenance, security and transportation programs; and performs responsibilities effectively with minimum supervision. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Transportation: Plans, directs, develops, coordinates and supervises the student transportation program including bus routes and schedules Coordinates with the transportation contractor a safe and efficient system of transportation Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the transportation program, bus replacement schedule, and grant application process. Prepares reports, requisitions, budget estimates, specifications for purchases and bids. Makes analyses and recommendations regarding the location of bus stops and initiates route changes as required Maintains surveillance of bus routes for hazards and road conditions Security: Install, maintain, and repair locks and keys Maintains computer record of all locks and keys Supervises the District s recycling program Maintenance: Installs, maintains, and makes general repairs to electrical and plumbing systems, painted and glazed surfaces, cabinets, furniture, and hardware Uses brushes, roller, and paint spraying equipment Prepares surfaces for finishing

2 TRANSPORTATION, SECURITY, AND Page 2 of 5 Glazes windows, repairs and replaces pipes, valves, and fittings Cleans out drains and obstructions in water and sewer systems Constructs or alters articles and structures made of wood such as cabinets, furniture, and fixtures Repairs/installs floor tiles, hardware, doors, walls, ramps, stairs, fences, and gates Installs and makes minor carpet repairs Uses and maintains related hand and power tools Operates truck transferring equipment (fork lift) Moves and assembles furniture as necessary Operates district vehicles Plans, installs, services, trouble-shoots, repairs and maintains all types of electronic and audio-visual equipment such as: projectors, television sets, cameras, radios, radiophonographs, tape recorders, stereos, compact disk players, intercom systems, VCRs, intrusion alarm systems, fire alarm systems, public address systems, vacuum cleaners, and other devices that require technical electronic skills. Installs new circuits and troubleshoots short-circuits and other electrical problems Requisitions materials as needed, and assists in estimating materials, equipment and work force needed for particular projects Reads blueprints, specifications and schematic drawings for maintenance projects assigned Assembles tools, equipment and materials required for jobs. Maintains accurate records and prepares and submits reports accordingly Develops and maintains adequate safety standards for self and staff Installs and repairs parking lot lights, interior lights, outside safety lights, and emergency lights Changes filters in heading and air conditioning systems May direct and coordinate the activities of other district personnel assigned to larger maintenance projects Performs maintenance, security, transportation, and other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Knowledge of: Basic methods, materials, tools, equipment and techniques used in general maintenance and repair work General safety procedures and practices to maintain a district transportation program Basic terminology, vocabulary and craft skills used in plant maintenance and operations Methods of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition

3 TRANSPORTATION, SECURITY, AND Page 3 of 5 Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet Routine maintenance activities in glazing, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting or mechanical repairs Applicable codes, laws, regulations, and safety orders in maintenance, security, and transportation areas Materials, tools and methods used in the repair and maintenance of typical projects to which assigned Thorough understanding and applications at the journey-level of methods, materials and equipment used in audio-visual repair Maintenance activities in other than the field of journey-level specialization, such as carpentry, electrical or mechanical repairs and the like. Ability to : Use of precision tools, including oxyacetylene and electrical welder Plan, develop and implement a program of preventive maintenance Work effectively with minimum supervision Work independently on transportation, security, maintenance and other related assignments Maintain high standards of maintenance and security work Analyze and diagnose maintenance problems and develop a systematic plan for solution Read/Interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, and drawings Use a variety of hand and power tools an power equipment Handle a variety of work orders and complete work on schedule Diagnose defects in electronic/mechanical audio-visual equipment Track circuits from blue prints Operate computerized software related to maintenance, security, and transportation Safely operate a variety of vehicles and equipment used in maintenance of equipment assigned Work from plans, specifications and schematic drawings and charts Coordinate the work of assistants that may be temporarily assigned Maintain careful records and prepare accurate reports for maintenance, security, and transportation Estimate time and materials needed on a variety of projects Estimate the scope of each work assignment and secure necessary tools, equipment and materials to complete the assignment Receive repair requests and translate them into practical and completed form Handle a variety of work orders and complete work on schedule

Training and Experience: Certificate and/or Trade Licenses preferred. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade One year of journey-level experience in electronic, electric, or mechanical systems repair; preferably including successful work experience in two or more other trades; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. In depth knowledge of lock and key systems License Possession of a valid California Driver's license and the ability to qualify for district vehicle insurance coverage. Physical Ability to pass required district physical. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines Able to conduct verbal conversation Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels) Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Able to push and/or pull a variety of tools and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds Able to work at various elevated heights on ladders, scaffolding rigging and roofs in a safe and effective manner Able to operate a variety of powered industrial vehicles, equipment, and tools associated with building repair, maintenance, preventative maintenance and construction in a safe and effective manner Able to operate a variety of maintenance motor vehicles n a safe and effective manner Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hours Able to exhibit full range of motion for: shoulder external rotation and internal rotation
