6 DIRECT THERMAL Direct thermal labels are made of a heat-sensitive material. These labels do not use a thermal ribbon, instead thermal print heads make direct contact with the material for printing. These labels are intended for a shorter life span as the image will fade with time. Taylor Communications offers an expansive selection of direct thermal labels in both standard and premium constructions. We offer a variety of label materials and adhesive specifications including paper and film substrates, permanent, removable and freezer grade adhesives to fit any application. Our direct thermal media has been tested to perform with popular printers including mobile printers. We offer direct thermal options and mobile media that fit any portable printer. We also offer custom direct thermal items if none of the stock items meet your needs. Un-coated direct thermal labels: The material is an uncoated, medium-sensitivity product with excellent image quality. It is manufactured with a permanent acrylic adhesive. Since this product is uncoated, it should be tested by the end-user for the specific application. It should not be used for applications that require extreme environmental resistance or exposure to damp, oily, or greasy conditions. Top-coated direct thermal labels: The material is a top-coated, medium sensitivity product with an all-temp/ freezer grade, acrylic permanent adhesive. This product provides excellent image quality. Since it is top-coated, it provides excellent results in most environmental conditions. Premium direct thermal gives improved UV light, heat, rub, and scratch resistance. It is recommended that any direct thermal product be tested in an end-user application before ordering production quantities. 12 THERMAL TRANSFER Thermal transfer labels use a thermal ribbon. Thermal printhead elements heat the reverse side of the thermal ribbon during printing, causing the ribbon material to melt and transfer to the label surface. These labels create permanent images that will not fade. Thermal transfer labels and tags are mostly used within the transport and logistics industry, but are also used for consumer durable labeling. Thermal transfer labels require a thermal transfer ribbon to print, but they offer a longer shelf life than direct thermal labels. We also kit ribbons with labels to optimize your process. Thermal transfer labels are white coated pressure sensitive with permanent adhesive The thermal/thermal transfer materials are compatible with most thermal/transfer printers Testing is recommended All rolls are perfed between each label Orders are in full cartons All labels are wound face stock out Thermal transfer labels are also available as a custom item. 22 THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS Taylor Communications offers a variety of wax, wax-resin, and resin-based thermal transfer ribbons specifically designed for printing on our stock thermal transfer labels. To achieve the optimal print quality, it is necessary to match the correct ribbon with the correct printer. In most cases, for standard print requirements wax ribbons are efficient. For those projects requiring resistance towards chemicals on the printing surface, wax-resin thermal ribbons are highly suggested. If you don t see the ribbon you want call your Sales Representative or with your requirements. Our ribbons offer superior smudge and scratch resistance and unbeatable edge definition. They have excellent barcode ribbon scanability. To match the length of a thermal transfer ribbon to your labels, calculate the total length of your labels in feet. Smudge-proof pressure sensitive paper material with a permanent adhesive is compatible with desktop laser printers, high-speed laser printers and inkjet printers. Laser & inkjet labels are used for on-demand printing applications.
