New areas of business with Versafire. The print product market is in a constant state of flux. Completely different customer expectations, globalization, and fierce competition on prices all call for greater flexibility and cost-efficiency. With the Versafire digital printing systems from Heidelberg, it s not a case of offset versus digital, but rather offset plus digital. Designed for the cost-efficient manufacture of short runs and print products that are difficult or expensive to produce using offset printing, Versafire combines the benefits of both methods. Less is more. While offset printing scores highly when it comes to production run costs and quality, digital printing makes it easy to meet other requirements such as fast delivery times, printing variable data, and processing an amazingly wide range of materials. It is even possible to combine the two types of production in a single job. Digital printing can be used to produce finished products such as brochures and magazines fully automatically on demand, to output prints in the right order, including runs of a single copy, and to personalize print jobs preprinted in offset. On-demand production of this kind reduces warehousing and logistics costs. Perforating, folding, and trimming are also possible thanks to the option of integrating inline finishing. Further benefits such as virtually zero paper waste really come to the fore with short runs. 05

The flexible all-rounder. Versafire CV With its outstanding quality and exceptional functions, the new Versafire CV takes efficiency, reliability, and profitability to a whole new level. As a flexible all-rounder, the Versafire CV is the only digital printing press in its class offering printing white, with very high opacity, or coating ink as a full-area or spot coating. It is quick and easy to switch between the spot colors, which ensures flexible use. Thanks to its innovative laser technology, the Versafire CV delivers razor-sharp high-resolution images. One particular plus point is the color toner used, which achieves a sharp, uniform result thanks to ultra-fine particles. Other impressive features include a large color scale and a low melting point. This makes it possible to print on all kinds of materials, such as plastics, with an image and color quality close to that achieved in offset. The Versafire CV also demonstrates its credentials with other challenging materials. It can be equipped with a smoothing function that ensures flat delivery, for example in the case of paper with a high moisture content. An optional suction feeder is available to reliably feed in problematic materials such as synthetic foils. The Versafire CV is designed for large paper formats. This enables items such as posters and six-page signatures to be produced in short runs in a single operation and, thanks to the Prinect Digital Frontend, without complicated impositioning. The Versafire CV also supports the non-stop production of long runs in a single pass. Several magazines ensure a continuous supply of paper without an operator having to constantly monitor the Versafire CV. These magazines can be logically linked for automatic print processes or be filled for the next print job while the previous job is still under way so as to minimize makeready times. Precise registration is essential when printing small items such as business cards or postcards. The Versafire CV operates with exceptional register accuracy for every single sheet, which means print images are positioned exactly on top of each other in the pile for reliable finishing. 08

The Versafire CV impresses with its big operator cockpit. The central monitor provides a continuous overview of all information from the print status of each job to fill levels and all the necessary color data. This makes it possible to keep an eye on the progress of printing while completing other tasks such as filling a magazine for the next job. Operation is intuitive, which reduces the time required to master the system. You can find more about the Versafire CV here: heidelberg.com/en/versafire-cv 09

The productive high achiever. Versafire CP The Versafire CP sets new standards in productivity, quality, and availability. Its flexibility and scalability make it the ideal solution for any print volume, high or low. The Versafire CP produces top-class advertising and presentation materials along with personalized print products, professionally bound books, and brochures. Equipped with an extra-long paper path, the Versafire CP impresses with its exceptionally smooth material flow at high print speeds and its precise print quality, even with coated or thick paper. A suction feeder is integrated as standard for the best possible results with challenging materials such as textured paper or plastics. The Versafire CP is highly automated and ensures precise positioning. This makes it possible to complete tasks not only more easily, but also with greater speed, cost-efficiency, and reliability. The Versafire CP processes all kinds of materials, including challenging substrates, with ease. An innovative color toner with a low melting point further increases the range of materials that can be printed. The digital printing system has a two-module structure to ensure maximum efficiency and high availability. The fixing and imaging units are physically separate. This provides plenty of space for working, which reduces downtimes during makeready and is also beneficial when working on the press. What s more, any paper blockage that occurs can be quickly located and reliably rectified. A second, easy-change cartridge for each color is integrated to ensure fast toner changes an additional plus for continuous production. The Versafire CP has a feedback control system that automatically corrects key parameters such as contrast, color shading, and CMYK ink coverage. If print products are to be produced using both offset and digital printing, this means color matching of the two methods is also possible. High productivity: the Prinect Digital Frontend Short-run print jobs are typical of digital printing. What s more, the print media need to be changed for virtually every job, so simply optimizing the printing processes on the press is not enough. All steps before and after printing also need to be taken into account. Prepress and postpress The Prinect Digital Frontend is based on sequences that can be automated. All steps including job creation, preflight checking, color management, and impositioning can be performed manually or saved as linked sequences for repeat jobs. This makes it possible to reliably reproduce any print job in just a few simple steps. In addition to this, the Prinect Digital Frontend supports prepress with a special softproof workflow that removes the need for time-consuming test prints. It also supports the finishing options of the Versafire digital printing systems, which means that many digital print products can be produced ready for sale in a single operation. This means that standard products can be produced quickly and automatically. Document-oriented workflow In digital printing, the focus is always on the finished print product. The Prinect Digital Frontend supports this production approach with a document-oriented imposition layout that helps prevent costly production errors. Personalized printing The Prinect Digital Frontend facilitates the production of personalized data in PDF/VT format. This enables all prepress processes to be used without any in-depth knowledge of personalized printing. Central cockpit with optimized user interface The Versafire digital printing systems are operated via a central cockpit that displays the progress of all jobs along with all production parameters that have an impact on print quality. Making changes whenever they are needed is quick and easy. In addition to production parameters, it is also possible to change the production sequence, for example to increase the digital printing systems capacity utilization. 20

Focus on productivity: orders, prepress and production at a glance, maximization of capacity utilization though optimal production control. Focus on qualification: different user interfaces (in this case e.g. only for Production) permit different employee qualifications and help to optimize labor costs. Transparent production Effective administration of job lists on the press is the basis for any optimized production. Jobs can be combined and grouped, for example according to the particular printing medium. The Prinect Digital Frontend uses the tried and tested Heidelberg renderer technology for the production of both digital and offset print products. This seamlessly optimizes consistency of color and form between the two production methods without any additional outlay. Minimal training outlay The Prinect Digital Frontend is delivered completely pre-installed. Typical production parameters are set as standard, including the production of black and white documents and the color-optimized printing of spot colors. Job-specific settings can be stored at any time and repeat jobs automated via hot folders. As a result, users learn to use the system quickly without the need for intensive training and high numbers of production errors. Special media qualification training is available for materials that are challenging to print. Easy to integrate The Prinect Digital Frontend can be integrated into an existing Prinect offset workflow at any time. As a result, all jobs can be managed, planned, and produced centrally in a single workflow system irrespective of printing method. Direct feedback is available for actual costing or machine and job-specific analyses. Bottlenecks can be identified at an early stage and quick results ensured. The very latest for seamless processes The Prinect Digital Frontend is always up to date. Updates can be installed automatically via the Internet. If required, and following consultation, Heidelberg Service can provide support and offer immediate solutions. Noticeably efficient processes For personalized flyers and brochures, short and very short runs, posters and special formats, printing-ondemand applications, preprints and reprints. 21
