The standard package includes a 60-tool magazine, coolant through the spindle, a fully programmable NC table and Toyoda s high performance 15,000 rpm spindle. It has an expanded work envelope to accommodate parts or fixtures up to 39" high and 24.8" in diameter. 2

3 High Speed Machining Faster material removal rates, reduced cycle times, and improved part finishes are the advantages of high-speed machining. The environmental benefits are equally significant. With fast cycle times and less coolant, energy consumption can be reduced up to 70 percent per workpiece. A particular benefit of high-speed machining on a horizontal machining center is the spindle orientation to the work area. Chips easily fall out of the cavity, taking excess heat away from the part and aiding in chip evacuation from the machine. The speed of the FH450S isn t just in the 15k spindle. All the supporting mechanisms, such as ballscrews, motors and ways have been designed to operate at higher feeds and speeds. In all three axes, the FH450S achieves 1,969 ipm positioning and feed rates. Spindle The Toyoda-built, 15,000 rpm spindle brings exceptional performance to the FH450S. We ve added a fourth bearing pack with automatic pre-load at the front of the spindle to reduce vibration. This stabilizes the characteristic frequency of the spindle, improves machining accuracy and prolongs tool life. Because the Toyoda design is more rigid, it can sustain higher radial pressures than the typical 3-bearing design. Automatic, recirculating oil lubricates and cools the ceramic bearings and protects against contamination. Coolant through the spindle is standard. 15,000 min-1 (rpm) spindle Cooling jackets over bearing and motor 4 sets of angular contact bearings Automatic bearing preload Sliding bearing directs thermal growth to the rear of the spindle (123) (86.9) 95.4 (70.4) 50.4 (37.2) 42 (31) 40.9 (30.2) 35.2 (26) 16.8 (12.4) 14.1 (10.4) 11.8 (8.7) 9.5 (7.0) 15,000 min-1 (rpm) spindle 25% ED N m (123 ft-lb) 15 min N m (86.9 ft-lb) Cont 95.4 N m (70.4 ft-lb) 15 min Continuous 25% ED Output kw (hp) 22 (29.5) 18.5 (24.8) 15.4 (20.7) 20.1 (15) 13 (17.4) 0.9 (1.2) 0.6 (0.8) 0.5 (0.7) 50 Spindle speed min-1 (rpm) 1,000 3,500 12,500 1,500 5,000 15,000 3

4 Fast & Efficient Machining Table & Pallet Changer FH450S is equipped as standard with an NC-controlled B axis that is fully programmable to 360,000 positions for contour machining. The high-speed table rotates 90º in 2.2 seconds, or 180º in 2.6. The pallet shuttle allows cutting to continue while the operator sets up the next part in a protected work area at the front of the machine. Pallet change time is 5.0 seconds. Rigid Guideways Low-friction linear guides incorporate dowel-shaped roller bearings. This design provides more surface contact than regular ball bearings, increasing rigidity and vibration dampening characteristics up to three times that of other machines. Dual Ballscrews To achieve instantaneous acceleration, two Z-axis ballscrews are positioned on either side of the table. The CNC s tandem control function ensures they maintain perfect synchronization. High acceleration and deceleration rates further contribute to an overall reduction in cycle times. Center Trough The dual Z-axis ballscrews, located on either side of the table, leave an open trough under the spindle. The central chip conveyor easily hauls out heavy chip loads so you can take full advantage of the machine s cutting capabilities. 4

5 Tool Storage (ATC) The standard tool magazine has 60 pockets and accommodates tools up to 13.8" long, 7.1" in diameter and weighing 17.6 lb. An optional 120-pocket chain-type magazine is available, or consider Toyoda s Matrix-style magazine to house 342 to 494 tools on one machine. GE Fanuc 31i Control The performance of the latest Fanuc CNC has been enhanced with ultra high-speed processors, a CNC internal bus and fiber optic cables for faster data transfer. The CNC, servo and sensors perform control movements in nanometers to achieve precision and quality even during high-speed and complex machining operations. The Fanuc 31i supports ethernet connectivity so that a management system with personal The operator control panel is mounted on the left-hand side of the door. computers can be constructed easily. Various types of field networks are also supported. Manage the largecapacity program memory with familiar PC-style file and edit functions and a large 15-inch LCD. Many built-in functions support operation and regular maintenance. Flexible Configuration Pallet Storage Toyoda s FPA is a multi-level pallet storage system for HMCs. The modular design is practical and easy to customize. The buffer racks can be one, two or three levels high, expand to the left or right, and have pallets on one or both sides of the rail. Toyoda s FPA automates machining loading and unloading to achieve spindle utilization well over 90 percent while reducing operator involvement. A range of single- and multi-level pallet pools are also available. Pallet Automation Mach-III Cell Controller software is designed to automate production on Toyoda HMCs, boosting output while reducing inventory and production costs. A single operator runs multiple machining centers, work stations and pallets from one shop-floor PC. Minimize set up and teardown by storing 8 to 300 fixtures and pallets in multi-level buffer stations. By automating machine loading and unloading, jobs can run unmanned. Lights-out production can continue nights and weekends. 5
