1 Programme Fact Sheet for Skills Certificate in Customs Compliance & Freight Forwarding: Part Time Duration: 12 months NQF Level: 03 SAQA I.D.: Overview of course: This qualification is to provide learners with the conceptual framework and the skills necessary to perform routine functions within the Custom Compliance & Freight Forwarding environment allowing the learner to operate cross functionality. Learners who successfully complete this qualification will be able to: Apply the competencies of numeracy and literacy to everyday work related situations. Adhere to the required processes and procedures related to the import and export of internationally traded goods. Use geographic and logistics concepts to carry our routine imports and exports policies and procedures. Admission criteria: Grades 12 pass and excel at Maths and Physical Science. Complete a bridging course in International Trade. Note: SAMS reserves the right to recommend learners onto a learning path through an initial assessment interview. SAMS will consider learners whom have gained prior working experience. Course commences: 14 th March 2015 (Saturdays only) Enrolment criteria: Learners wishing to enrol with SAMS would require the following: Completed enrolment form signed (Guarantor to sign and initial all pages) 2 Certified copies of the learners I.D. 2 I.D. photos of the learner 1 Copy of the salary advice ( parent/guardian) 1 Copy of a Municipality bill ( parent/guardian) Previous qualifications the learner may have received Proof of debit order in respect of fees

3 Programme Fact Sheet for Freight Handling: One year Part Time certificate Duration: 12 months NQF Level: 03 SAQA I.D.: Overview of course: The aim of this course is to equip the learner with a comprehensive understanding of the worlds container fleet and its many operational facets, both on land, rail, air and sea. This understanding will help learners make informed decisions that ultimately affect the success of shipping and import / export business. Understanding the parameters within which container operations exist will enable the learner to make decisions, plan effectively, thereby avoiding possible costly mistakes ensuring your business partners provide you with the optimum level of service. On successful completion learners will be able to: Know the basics of supply and demand in the market. Know the basics of absolute and comparative advantage required for international trade. Know the basics components of the value chain. Know the basics of international trade agreements. SAMS considers this programme as necessary bridging course for its Freight Handling, Shipping Practice and Customs Compliance and Freight forwarding courses.
