Harnessing the wind. Your reliable power source. The full range of wind energy services.

Tailwind right from the start. Wind power with TÜV Rheinland. Wind farm project activities have become far more complex in recent years. Changes in site conditions, the development of more powerful systems and connecting them to the grid these are some of the major challenges that manufacturers, suppliers and energy companies now have to confront. As a leading service provider in the energy sector, TÜV Rheinland offers comprehensive, individual consulting for the implementation of your projects with a service portfolio that covers the full range of functions, from site selection to design and manufacturing support to the dismantling of plants. Our excellence is rooted in interdisciplinary competence. Valued partners to many energy companies, our experts comprehensive knowledge of legal and technical requirements relative to plant operations are typical hallmarks of TÜV Rheinland. Our focus combines economic aspects with the preservation of man and environment, and our clients include both major corporations and municipal utilities. Take advantage of our extensive service offer and our international presence. Type certification The type certification process covers the testing and evaluation of the entire WTG and verifies compliance with applicable national and international standards. Specifically, the following elements are examined: Design basis evaluation Identification of all requirements, assumptions and design principles Design evaluation Mechanical, structural and electrical components; noise emissions; lightning protection; control systems; personal protective equipment; load cases; foundation design requirements; transport logistics; manufacturing, installation and maintenance plans Type testing Safety and function tests; blade tests; lifts and hoisting equipment; noise emission; electronics Supplier monitoring Quality management; supplier monitoring Measurement of type characteristics Power output; power quality; loads Final evaluation Final review and evaluation of test results Type certificate Component certification Component certification procedures are similar to those used for type certification, whereby the special features of a module are determined by the requirements of the specific component. Particular emphasis is placed on the technical specifications for the interfaces between the component and the wind power plant. Here the primary focus is on the identification of critical conditions such as special operating states and dynamic loads.

No matter how complex your project may be. You can always rely on the support of TÜV Rheinland.

Verification of Design Basis and Site Assessment Site Specific Design Manufacturing Monitoring Site conditions - meteorological conditions (i.e. wind conditions) - oceanographic conditions (i.e. waves, ice) - geotechnical conditions (i.e. soil) - Environmental impact assessment Codes standards, further requirements Design methodology Technical configuration WTG type certificate Grid connection Installation & commissioning Operation & maintenance Load and response for the integrated structure - rotor - nacelle - substructure - foundation Wind turbine Electrical components & control systems Communication systems Substation, cables Grid connection Installation and commissioning procedures Health and safety management Third-party inspections Assessment of manufacturers and suppliers Assessment of manufacturing processes Component inspection (rotor blades, drive train components, tower, lightning protection and control systems, electrical components, etc.) Non-destructive testing, material testing Expediting Project certification In the wind power industry, there is an increasing tendency to move projects offshore. Together with much higher energy output, especially due to changed wind conditions, this trend is also increasing the risks for companies that construct and operate wind farms. As it is precisely these new local conditions that result in a whole series of new technical challenges, special measures are required in order to minimise these very risks. Project certification by TÜV Rheinland provides owners, investors, banks and insurance companies with a sustainable basis for the secure and profitable operation of the systems. The project certification process is based on the type certification of the WTG. Project certification ensures that the type-certified wind turbine generator and its foundation are perfectly matched to the site-specific requirements and that the design of the system takes all relevant local conditions into consideration. Particular emphasis is placed here on the energy transmission and grid integration.

Installation Monitoring Commissioning Periodic Inspections Assessment of logistics planning Assessment of transport and installation planning Transport monitoring Construction monitoring Acceptance testing Review of commissioning procedures and instructions System audits Equipment checks Annual inspection (onshore part): - Assessment of maintenance programmes and repair procedures - Assessment of inspection routines Annual inspection (offshore part): - Primary components of the WTG (rotor blades, drive train, nacelle, hydraulic systems, brakes, electrotechnical components) - Tower - Safety equipment, measurement equipment, control and regulation systems, switchgear, transformer / substation - Structure/foundation and cable WTG (undersea) - Structure/foundation transformer / substation (undersea) - Primary components of the transformer / substation
