TriMet s Multimodal Trip Planner Powered by OpenTripPlanner Bus Train Walk Bike or combination OTP Call Taker Module TriMet provides a service to the public that allows transit riders to call a hotline and receive verbal instructions that explain how to complete a desired trip. Call volumes are often high so call takers must be able to retrieve and relay the information required of them quickly for the service as a whole to function at an adequate level. Callers are often unfamiliar with or unsure of the specifics of their transit or multi-modal trips so the call takers must have tools in place that help them combat these deficiencies. 1

Step 1: Call Initiated The Call History Window captures information about the incoming call and data is saved in database for retrieval and reporting purposes. Step 2: Trip Planning Trip information is entered into the Trip Options Window. Geocoder/address locator includes landmarks, stops, addresses, etc. with dropdown menu for quick selection and view of possible candidates. Trips are saved and can be recalled at later time for modification if needed. Step 3: Trip Analysis Itineraries are returned and displayed in Itinerary Window and on map for interaction and analysis. Features of Itinerary Window: Graph at top displays high level graphic representation of trips and legs below expand for details. Displays alerts and detours. Ability to view first and last trip of the day, as well as previous and next trip. Quick Links to: Stop Viewer Window Trip Viewer Window Route Page Timetable Page 2

Features of Map Easy to display aerials or other basemaps. O&Ds can be moved via Trip Options Window or by moving flags on map. Interaction with map (ex: hovering over a trip leg in the window selects it on the map). Functions can be performed with mouse or with keyboard. Step 4: Finalizing Trip Trips are automatically saved and can be viewed or modified. Saved trips can be printed or ed. Data is saved in database for retrieval and reporting purposes. 3

Mailings TriMet Call Takers will mail personalized trip plans, transit schedules and other rider information free of charge if these materials are requested. The Mailables Window captures customer s name, address, and requested items for automatic generation of letters. OTP Field Trip Module TriMet provides a free field trip planning and scheduling service to schools in the Portland metro region. The primary purposes of this service are to assist groups in determining the most efficient way to reach their destination via transit and to ensure that multiple field trip groups do not attempt to ride the same transit vehicle. 4

Step 1: Field Trip Request Form Teachers fill out online form. This replaces PDF forms that are handwritten by teachers, mailed in, and then data entered by staff. Step 2: Field Trip Planning Field Trip Requests Window allows staff to review requests as they are generated in the queue from the online form. Trips are saved and can be viewed, modified, or cancelled. Origins & destinations (O&Ds) are auto-populated and confirmed by staff in the Geocoder Window. Confirmed origins & destinations are autopopulated in Trip Options Window, which is used to plan trips, set preferences, ban particular routes, and adjust group sizes. 5

Step 3: Field Trip Analysis Itineraries are returned and displayed in Itinerary Window and on map for interaction and analysis. Capacity is easily managed and student groups can be assigned to more than one bus. Step 4: Finalizing Field Trip Saved trips can be printed or ed. Receipts are auto-generated. Reports are auto-generated and sent to Operations. Data is saved in database for retrieval and reporting purposes. 6
